Colin Trevorrow Does His Best To Ease Concerns Of Episode IX

Recently, Trevorrow’s newest film The Book of Henry was screened in Italy at the Ischia Global Film Festival where he received the ‘Breakout Director’ Award. This had a lot of critics and fans alike on edge after the poor reviews and the question was brought up once again; Is Trevorrow the right man for the job? The Hollywood Reporter recently sat down with the director, click through to see what he has to say.

Colin Trevorrow is defending his position as the Episode IX director and also defends the ‘Han Solo’ movie’s game of Director Musical Chairs.

Not only did I grow up on these stories, like all of us did, [but] I think that the values of Star Wars are values that I hold very close and very dear in my life. I feel that the message of the way that the Force teaches you to treat other people and show respect for others, and the way it guides you through life, is really important to me. And I hope everybody would realize that that set of stories has affected me as deeply in my life as it has affected them.               -Colin Trevorrow

He is also very aware of the significance of directing a Star Wars film and the impact it has on the audience.

“I think the challenge for me is to recognize that everyone has their own personal relationship with these stories, and it’s different depending on who you are. And I need to make a film that you’ll appreciate, even if your experience with it was different, which is making something that will be deeply emotionally resonant and satisfying for people all around the world. And I think about it a lot.”  -Trevorrow

After being on the receiving end of doubts and questions regarding his ability, he gave his thoughts on the ‘Han Solo’ production.

“Movies are very personal, and art is very personal, and for people to try to turn that into something that is salacious or something that will get clicks is frustrating and sad for me because I know that [movies] mean a lot to everyone involved. And everybody involved in that movie is passionate about it and worked on it very hard and continues to work on it very hard.”                                                                                           -Trevorrow

You can read the entire article from The Hollywood Reporter here. This topic has been one that has fans on both sides of the argument. Some feel he is the best choice, while other’s think there could be better options. All I can say is he seems to have a thorough understanding of how important this film is (being the end of a trilogy) and what it means to the fans. Is that going to be enough to ensure the movie is in good hands? Only time will tell, but right now as we inch closer and closer to The Last Jedi, I am seeing more to be excited about.
