Hasbro agreed with us when we said that The Vintage Collection needs to be a conversation. They’ve since taken this quip of ours and used it in their SDCC presentation. Therefore, we’re going to keep that conversation indeed going. How should Hasbro approach 2018’s The Vintage Collection card backs? (more….)
I would personally like to see them going back to the first generation ones. They were colorful, matched the name pills, and provided historical referencing to the very first original Kenner/Hasbro action figure release of that character. It was to show how far these updates have come in The Vintage Collection. For first-time offered characters (those that had never been made ever in action figure form), they’d simply add a movie/reference still in place of the historical reference figure. It was seamless and worked well. The card back style then changed in 2012 and I thought it looked terrible. You couldn’t tell one TVC figure apart from the next. Anyway, what do you want to see when the collection returns? A return to the awesome original card back? Have them rehash the debacle of 2012? Or attempt a new third generation card back instead? Either way, the horrid Disney logo is going to obfuscate any future card back, so we hope that Hasbro will make it as tiny as possible because it doesn’t belong there. Your thoughts in our comments please.
