Website Vulture has a lengthy article about the behind the scenes troubles on the Solo: A Star Wars Movie set. And if true, sheds some light on the real reasons why Lord & Miller were fired from the movie by Kathleen Kennedy. Click through to learn more!
An unnamed actor in the movie (not one of the main stars, that much is known) talked to Vulture and gave some insight into what was going on behind the scenes, which ultimately led to the removal of Lord & Miller.
According to the source Lord & Miller were completely out of their depth when it came to filming a big blockbuster live action movie. They demanded take after take, not really knowing what they’re looking for. Routinely, they asked for more than 30 takes for one and the same scene, which lead to some confusion among the actors, not really knowing what the directors are wanting.
The source goes on and says that the actual shooting script has not changed at all. Ron Howard shot the same script that Lord & Miller used, but Howard has a completely different approach and he’s much more efficient. Howard needed only 2-3 takes instead of more than 30.
The source says this about Alden Ehrenreich: “Lucasfilm wanted something very specific: copying someone else. Alden’s not a bad actor — just not good enough.”
The source furthermore claims that Lord & Miller failed to get the best performance out of Alden Ehrenreich, that finally lead to Lucasfilm hiring an acting coach for him. And the source says this actually helped and improved his performance, Ehrenreich became more relaxed and channeled Harrison Ford much better than before.
In the end Lucasfilm was unhappy with Lord & Miller’s shooting style. The question remains why Lucasfilm didn’t act sooner and waited for so long to replace them with someone who’s better suited to direct a big franchise movie.
