In a recent interview with ABC News Mark Hamill was asked about his prospective return to the Star Wars franchise in Episode IX. He still feels the loss of Carrie Fisher and what he said gives food for thought. Click through to find out what he said.
When asked about Carrie Fisher’s untimely passing and his potential return to Episode IX, Mark Hamill gave the following reply:
“It really has tarnished my ability to enjoy it to its fullest. You were asking earlier, ‘Are you gonna come back?’ I don’t care anymore, on that level. Because Han Solo is gone, Luke is gone. You just can’t get the band back together the way you wanted it to be, and it shouldn’t be that way. It is what it is. Rather than being sorry that we can’t have more of her, I’m just grateful that we had the time with her that we did.”
Now, Mark Hamill has also repeatedly stated that he will return to Episode IX if asked by Lucasfilm. But you can understand his sentiment. With Carrie Fisher gone and Harrison Ford no longer returning it surely must feel strange and different for him to be in an upcoming Star Wars movie without any of his two co-stars.
It is a pity that there never was this one reunion scene in the new trilogy and you can tell that Mark Hamill isn’t too happy about it either.
What do you think? Do you share Mark’s sentiment? Or do you feel it’s time for the new generation to take over and to let go of the past? Or do you think that recasting could be a way forward, similar to what Lucasfilm did for the Solo movie – telling stories that are set before The Force Awakens?
Mark Hamill has given his opinion on recasting Leia for Episode IX, to him, Carrie Fisher is irreplaceable.
