The new animated Star Wars series by Dave Filoni has just been announced. The show will be titled “Star Wars: Resistance”. Click through for more details!
The new animated show by Dave Filoni will feature new main character Kazuda Xiono and follow the hero’s adventures as the character tries to uncover the secrets of the First Order. For that Kazuda will be on a top-secret spy mission.
BB-8, Poe Dameron (voiced by Oscar Isaac) and Captain Phasma (voiced by Gwendoline Christie) will also be featured in the series, supposedly as guest stars. Kazuda Xioni will not be the only main character, as it seems, the series will feature other ace pilots. But no names were given for any of the other characters. Not much else is known at the moment, other than that the series is set before The Force Awakens.
As you can tell from the promo image the aesthetic leans heavily on WWII airplanes. David Filoni has this to say: “The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
The show will premiere this fall on the Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.
Voice actors for the show will be the aforementioned Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, joining them will be Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community), and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).
So, what do you think? Are you excited? From the look of things it seems that Star Wars: Resistance will have a more traditional 2D animated look and not the CGI aesthetic of Rebels and Clone Wars.
Update 1: article edited for clarity. The gender of the main hero is not actually known at this time.
Update 2: voice actor Christopher Sean, who is listed first in the cast list provided by the announcement, is an American actor of half Japanese heritage. So it’s likely Kazuda is male and that he will be voiced by Christopher Sean.
