To purchase Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel, Disney spent approximately $15.5 billion dollars. While this is no small amount of money in anyone’s imagination, it is only around 60% of what Disney plans to spend in the next 5 years on their Florida, France, Hong Kong, and Anaheim Theme Parks. Cruise lines will also be added to the tune of 3 new ships at around a billion dollars each. All of this is being added to accommodate increased traffic in the parks, which according to the NY Times article, are operating at 100% greater profit than they were 5 years ago.
I can’t imagine how many people will be sardined into Batuu when it opens. Between the full size Millenium falcon you get to walk through, to the new Star Wars hotel that makes you feel like you are staying on a space station, I can feel the pull to visit soon too and help Disney get a return on this investment!
