“You want to go see the movie!”
Some estimates go as low as $175 million even, according to Deadline, but they think that’s too low an estimate. It’s still early and it seems the marketing campaign is only now starting in earnest, so we’ll have to see if general awareness will rise in the coming weeks. But with how the various trailers etc are tracking on YouTube, with relatively low numbers when compared to previous sequel trilogy movies, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if The Rise of Skywalker made less money than The Last Jedi. Deadline also asserts that all box office projections are moot if early reviews for the movie are bad. Likewise, the movie could perform much better if early reviews indicate that The Rise of Skywalker will correct the left turns made in The Last Jedi, according to Deadline. The Hollywood premiere for actors, celebrities and the media is on December 16th. JTA will post both a spoiler free and spoiler review on December 18th.
Do you have your ticket already? Are you waiting for reviews before you make up your mind? Or will you sit this one out?
