Disney invited a few people to check out the brand new “Rise of the Resistance” ride at Galaxy’s Edge (Walt Disney World). YouTube Channel Ordinary Adventures captured their tour on video. And while not the whole ride could be filmed, the 20 minute video will show you most of the ride, including highlights from the part that is set on the First Order Star Destroyer. Click through for the video and a few more details!
And here is the video, it’s a bit long, almost 20 minutes.
The sets certainly look very impressive, especially the Star Destroyer set is massive. There are appearances by Daisy Ridley as a Hologram of Rey, you also see Poe Dameron on video and Nien Nunb is an animatronic. General Hux and Kylo Ren appear both on video and apparently as animatronics somewhat later.
But the ultimate question is: how many people will be interested in a Star Wars ride about the “Rise of the Resistance” that is apparently set around the The Last Jedi after “The Rise of Skywalker” has come and gone and thus concludes the sequel trilogy?
Disney will be stuck with a sequel themed Star Wars theme park in a time when Baby Yoda is actually the talk of the day and the sequels are almost history. Who will want to experience the Rise of the Resistance in three or five years from now, after several new Star Wars Disney+ shows and especially once the new movies are released? That is the interesting question here.
Disney’s approach that Galaxy’s Edge is “canon”, prevents any appearances by the Mandalorian or Baby Yoda in the park, as well as appearances by all the popular characters from the original and prequel trilogy. It remains to be seen if Rise of the Resistance can boost visitor numbers for the park. Especially in light of the upcoming release of The Rise of Skywalker.
But fans of the sequels and fans who don’t mind that Galaxy’s Edge as a whole has a very narrow focus will certainly have a lot of fun with the new ride!
Update: and here’s POV video of the whole experience, beginning through end. Also, the ride experienced technical issues already, it broke down. Insiders claim that due to the cutting edge technology used for the ride it may experience quite a lot of downtime and that one reason for the delay were the many technical issues.
