New Star Wars Movie And New Disney+ Series Announced!
The rumors were true after all! A new Star Wars movie and a new Disney+ series were announced today! Click through for more!
Taika Waititi and Leslye Headland
A while ago it was reported that Lucasfilm is approaching Taika Waititi to direct and write a new Star Wars movie. And today it was officially announced that Taika Waititi will indeed direct and co-write a new Star Wars feature film. There is no release date for the movie yet. And no details about it are known, whether or not it’ll be a stand alone project or part of a new movie series. And the second piece of news will come also as no big surprise anymore. Leslye Headland will indeed develop and write a new Star Wars series for Disney+. No details about the show were given, so we don’t know if the Variety report about a female-centric (whatever exactly that means) Star Wars show is true.
What are your thoughts here? Are you happy with Taika Waititi playing a larger role in the Star Wars franchise? Will his idiosyncratic humor be a good fit? And what about Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland who will indeed develop a new series? Before you jump to conclusions, any Disney+ Star Wars series will certainly have a broad appeal to all kinds of fans. Just as any Star Wars movie by Taika Waititi will aim to make as many fans happy as possible.
Let the debates begin about whether or not the two will be able to achieve their goal! Also what are the bets that both of these will actually still be director / showrunner once the movie/series is released? Taika Waititi once quipped that Lucasfilm would fire him almost immediately and that he while he has interest in directing a Star Wars feature he also likes to finish his projects. But of course that was before his work on “The Mandalorian”.
