So I thought a first comparative look at both figures might be fun, based on the promo photos we have! Which figure is more accurate? Which one looks more like the actual character in the series? We reported about rumored SHF figures from The Mandalorian a few days ago. Some details were still scarce, but now S.H.Figuarts have officially announced the new figures, yes, you read right, figures, “Baby Yoda” is indeed a single release and NOT an accessory. Also, very important, it seems the Beskar armor Mandalorian has a normal sized helmet, and doesn’t suffer from pinhead syndrome after all! Click through for all the photos and some details!
As you know, Hasbro Pulse will reveal news items today at 3 PM via outlets across the web. We thought it would be a fantastic time to keep Hasbro accountable to longtime The Vintage Collection collectors that they honor their recommitment to the Original Classic Kenner 96. Below we listed 15 characters we’re desperate to see realized in The Vintage Collection line, and especially the packaging. Is it possible Hasbro will announce any of these characters for us today?
Welcome back to another fine Tuesday, Toy Runners! This week I have an exciting new delivery from Amazon and a custom to share with you. I updated my shelf display, too so click here to check it out!
I received a cancellation email for my Black Series Snowspeeder from Amazon Germany today. They cited a “lack of availability”. As far as I can tell the Black Series Snowspeeder is also no longer listed on Amazon Germany. Have any of you received cancellation emails from Amazon as well? Hasbro stated that they missed a few shipments because of the ongoing pandemic, but that they hope to catch up again in the next few weeks. So maybe it’s just a temporary hickup and things may become available again at a later date. Unless production of the Snowspeeder (and maybe other toys) was affected, then some releases may be delayed. We’ll have to see. Let us know in the comments if anything you pre-ordered was cancelled as well! Perhaps only Europe / Germany are affected and everything is still fine in the USA.

Hasbro Pulse advertised a Star Wars Fan Event Day for tomorrow, March 31st a couple of days ago. New products will be revealed and that is confirmed. But do you think anything “new” besides what most of us pre-ordered on Amazon that they accidentally put up for pre-order on February 24th will be shown? Does anyone expect new 6″ figures to be revealed as well? So far, we know these five The Vintage Collection figures are coming. We have the orders to prove it.

If you follow our site with any regularity, you know that I’ve been adding Kenner/Hasbro’s long line of Collector Series, Action Collection, and general 12 Inch Figures into our Research Droids Reviews database. As the volume of figures added grew large, Readers began to ponder how many of the original Kenner “mini-figures” were released in the one-sixth scale in the modern Hasbro Star Wars line. Well, wonder no more. I took the time to prepare a vintage versus modern 12″ counterpart to answer the questions. But before you check it out, let’s look at some interesting facts.
Kenner/Hasbro produced the Slide Viewer as a mail-away exclusive to interact with the pack-in premiums of the 1998 line. It also came with two exclusive slides. Hasbro Pulse reveals that new figures will be revealed on March 31st for Star Wars Fan Celebration Day! Stay tuned for more!
Pop culture magazine “Exclumagazine” posted a photo of two new SH Figuarts Star Wars figures that may or may not come later this year. A Beskar armor Mandalorian and the “Child” aka Baby Yoda (which would most likely be an accessory). Please take this with a heavy dosage of salt. Nothing is confirmed, but the Beskar Mandalorian looks legit, he even has the SHF pinhead syndrome that many of their helmeted characters suffer from. There has been a conspicuous absence of announcements from SH Figuarts in recent times, so some new figure reveals would be welcome. Would you add the SHF version of a Beskar armor Mandalorian to your collection? Or would you rather wait for the inevitable Hasbro version?

It’s weekend! Time to relax. Time to have some fun! And even though times are not the best and many of us feel the impact of the ongoing pandemic, it’s always good to have at least some fun and a few lighthearted moments. Earlier this week the Screen Junkies YouTube channel released their long awaited honest trailer for The Rise of Skywalker. It’s more than 7 minutes of hilarity! No matter if you liked or disliked the film, you will certainly find something in the trailer that will make you smile or even laugh. So click on the image below to watch the honest trailer! Or watch it on YouTube! Either way, have a great 7+ minutes! And then discuss the trailer in the comments! Are the Screen Junkies on or off the mark? Is The Rise of Skywalker really just Episode 7.5, as the honest trailer says?
The C-3PO (Tales Of The Golden Droid) Masterpiece Edition set is another hit! Do you know this figure’s “secret”? It’s another one of Hasbro’s greatest 12 Inch Figures produced. The comic book industry, like so many other industries, is suffering a lot at the moment. A few days ago the largest comics distributor in the US and UK, Diamond Comic, said they will stop distributing comics for the direct market (i.e. comic book shops) for the next few weeks. And with Diamond being the exclusive distributor for Marvel and DC Comics, that means pretty much all the big titles won’t see a print release in the next few weeks. Now the big question is if comics would still be released digitally. And both Starwars.com and Lucasfilm announced that the relaunched Doctor Aphra comic from Marvel would see a release as a digital exclusive on April 1st. But now a source at Marvel told comic news website “newsarama” that the info is inaccurate and that there will be no digital release for Doctor Aphra #1. And apparently that source was correct, Starwars.com changed their preview article and now it says “coming soon”. Digital is only a fraction of the print market and selling the comic as a digital exclusive may not be the best option, especially for a relaunched #1 title. Also, comic book shops will need a lot of hot sellers once they reopen and selling comics as digital exclusives may put even more burden on them. And of course Marvel and DC love relaunches, because #1 releases usually sell a lot more than issues from long running series. And a printed comic would most likely make more money. The main Star Wars title was relaunched a while ago for that reason as well. So delaying the release of Aphra is probably the best option for both Marvel and comic book shops. But as a result of this comic book fans waiting for new Star Wars issues probably need to have a lot of patience in the next few weeks.

Michael Biehn will join the Mandalorian cast in season 2! Biehn is certainly best known for his role as “Kyle Reese” in “The Terminator”. Another of his iconic genre roles was “Corporal Hicks” in James Cameron’s “Aliens”. Biehn hasn’t really had any high profile roles in recent years but The Mandalorian may put him in the spotlight again. Details on his role are sparse, but he’s said to portray a bounty hunter who The Mandalorian had business with in the past. But that’s not the only news. It was also announced that Bill Burr will make a return as “Mayfeld” in season 2.
The Mandalorian season 2 is currently in post production, at least for now. Other shows that are in post production are already delayed, among them “The Walking Dead”, where the season finale is currently in post but will have to be pushed back indefinitely. However, there are no news of Lucasfilm or ILM shutting down (whereas Marvel Studios has shut down for the time being), so there’s hope The Mandalorian will return to Disney+ on schedule in October 2020.
Are you excited for Biehn to make a guest appearance on The Mandalorian as a bounty hunter?
When Trace Martez pilots her prized ship on a mysterious job arranged by her sister Rafa, Ahsoka is alarmed to learn they are transporting for the evil Pyke Syndicate. Fearing that her ship may be at risk, Trace makes a rash decision that puts them all in peril in “Deal No Deal,” an all-new episode of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” this FRIDAY, March 27 on Disney+.

It seems our worst fears, a lack of Star Wars toys, will not come true. In fact, things look quite good for Hasbro! Hasbro’s stock price rose more than 12% today, after Brian Goldner said in a statement to CNBC that Hasbro is seeing an increased demand in toys and that supply chains in China are up and running again. Hasbro may miss a few shipments, but they are catching up and Goldner expects that by April they will be fully caught up again. It seems that people staying at home are buying more board games than before, Goldner mentioned Monopoly, Operation and Play-Doh as some of the toys that see increased demand. So even if many of us may have to stay at home a while longer, we will most likely not have to live without new Star Wars toys!

Several European governments have asked Disney to reduce the video quality for Disney+. The service will launch tomorrow in several major European countries, however, because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, several governments are afraid that above average usage of streaming services by people told to stay at home may congest the internet. Even though German internet providers reassured that there’s more than enough capacity, at least in Germany, Disney complied and the service will reduce the bitrate in Europe for the next few weeks. Furthermore, France asked Disney to postpone the launch of the streaming service. So now Disney+ will launch two weeks later in France.
Disney is not the only company to reduce the video bitrate in Europe, YouTube, Amazon Prime and Netflix also reduce bitrates. So you may get somewhat less than optimal video quality in Europe for the time being. Maybe some European countries need to upgrade their internet infrastructure. According to reports Switzerland is even considering to disable video streaming services in the country until further notice. At least that is not an option in the other European countries. If you watch videos on various streaming platforms in Europe you may see some artifacts here and there. It’s not you then, it’s the streaming service!

Without any announcement Hasbro put an all new action figure toyline up on their website. And it’s a new scale too! Meet the new budget 9.5 inch Star Wars action figure toyline. MSRP is $9.95. For now you can buy four characters, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker (ROTJ), Kylo Ren and a First Order Stormtrooper. Articulation is extremely limited. These are actually 4 POA figures, the points of articulation are the shoulders, head and the waist. So yes, no leg articulation at all. Click through for images of the figures out of the box!
In this week’s episode of The Clone Wars we get our first new episode not based on a previously released animatic. We meet Ahsoka again who is on her own now after leaving the Jedi Order. And because of an accident she finds herself on Level 1313 of Coruscant, where she meets the Martez sisters. Trace operates the garage Ahsoka more or less crash landed onto, whereas Rafa has some shady business going on that Ahsoka gets drawn into. Adam Savage’s “Tested” YouTube Channel recently posted a video of him assembling a commercially available Thermal Detonator kit (currently sold out, you can be put on a waiting list). While we here on JTA focus on toys and action figures there are also many fans who collect prop replicas, from lightsaber handles and blasters to things like thermal detonators.
Adam Savage usually builds things from scratch, but this time he uses a thermal detonator kit designed by KR Sabers and One Replicas. It comes with electronics and looks pretty much like the “real” thing used in the movie. Click the image below to watch the video! It’s somewhat long, 20 minutes or so, but what better way is there to pass the time, when many of us need to stay at home anyway. And if you watch the video all the way through to the end Adam will share a funny anecdote about the time he was tasked with designing a thermal detonator for Master Replicas and he was allowed to actually handle the original prop used in the movie at the Ranch.
Do you collect prop replicas? And if so… which ones? Lightsabers? Blasters? Other things?

Covid-19, better known as the coronavirus, has the world firmly in its grip. And the Walt Disney Corporation is no exception here. Like all other entertainment companies Disney is facing stiff challenges, challenges that may, to a certain degree, also affect Star Wars. Movie releases get postponed, most theaters in the US are closed anyway, worldwide most countries have shut down all movie theaters, tv and streaming series productions are on hold, theme parks are closed, Disney cruises are shut down at least for another two weeks. But chances are the crisis won’t be over in two weeks and that whatever counter measures are in effect now will still be in effect in April and maybe even May and June. First analysts theorize that now may be the perfect time for Apple to buy Disney, Disney’s stock price is falling and it will most likely continue to fall. So what exactly is going on right now and what does it mean for us, the consumers? Click through for more details!

Hasbro announced earlier today that their Star Wars team will have some changes. Product Design Manager Sam Smith, who we last saw at toy fair, will no longer be on the team, he will stay with Hasbro and work on other action brands. Instead Chris Reiff will join the team as an Associate Principal Designer. Reiff has experience working as an illustrator for various Star Wars books and products. Vickie Stratford will remain the design lead.
However, the big news is that Mark Boudreaux will retire. He’s been with Star Wars since the inception of the toyline when he joined Kenner in early 1977. Mark had a hand in designing every Kenner/Hasbro Millennium Falcon toy over the past decades. Fans will certainly sorely miss him. But all good things come to an end and Mark will hopefully enjoy his well deserved retirement after working on Star Wars toys for 43 years.
Thanks to Cybereye for the alert!

The Galaxy of Adventures shorts return with season 2! Season 2 will move forward in time, however, and will apparently focus on the sequel trilogy. Given the fact that there are sequel based action figures in the toyline it only made sense for Lucasfilm to give the sequels the same treatment as the original and prequel trilogy movies before. Season 1 was mostly received quite positively – even if some of the shorts inserted some creative freedom into the source material – with quite a number of fans even asking for all animated movies in the Galaxy of Adventures style.
UPDATE: apparently season 2 will also feature a lot more prequel trilogy content than before, so season 2 won’t just feature mostly the sequels! Matt Martin, a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group, confirmed this on Twitter. And season 2 will also have all new content, so not just animated scenes with movie dialogue.
You can watch the season 2 trailer on YouTube! The first new episode should be released on the Star Wars Kids channel very soon!
Will you check out the new season? What would you say to an entire movie in the Galaxy of Adventures style, i.e. combining original dialogue and all new animation? In my opinion that could be something that many fans would like, including kids.
MORE NEW FIGURES! It’s time to check out the 6″ Imperial Probe Droid figure. It’s nice. And it’s the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today! When it comes to selecting the most easily recognized characters in Star Wars, the Stormtrooper definitely makes that list. From their first appearance in the opening battle of Star Wars: A New Hope, with their skull-like helmets and head-to-toe armor, they have captured the imagination and excitement of fans around the world. So, it is fitting that this second coin in New Zealand Mint’s officially licensed Star Wars Premium Helmets Coin Collection features the Stormtrooper helmet.
The ongoing coronavirus crisis has now reached the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Today it was announced that the park will close its gates on March 14th and that it will not reopen for the remainder of the month. The hotels will be open until March 16th (Monday) to allow guests to plan for their departure. It is unknown if Disneyland Anaheim will actually reopen in April or not. Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida remains open for the time being. Nevertheless the coronavirus will certainly hit Disney’s theme parks division very hard and 2020 may turn out to be a horrible year for the company. Because not only theme parks are affected, but movies as well. Pixar’s latest movie “Onward” had the worst opening of a Pixar movie ever. Other studios postpone the release of their movies. Perhaps Marvel Studios will be affected too. Black Widow will be released in late April / early May, but if things have not improved by then its release may be postponed as well. Bob Chapek certainly has his hands full now managing the crisis. Let’s hope Disneyland will actually reopen in April and that things will improve. However, in all likelihood, the epidemic will get worse, we have not reached its peak yet according to several experts. Stay safe!
UPDATE: Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland Paris in France will also shut down now!
Since Hasbro refuses to tell us about upcoming new toys and Disney won’t tell us what’s the deal with Kenobi and the Cassian Andor show (at least we know that Mandalorian season 2 filming wrapped a short while ago and that everything is fine with the series), I thought it’s maybe a good idea to have some fun to pass the time. And what’s more entertaining than a quiz (please don’t reply to that question)? Namely… can you guess the character? You can see a preview of the character in question below. Please click through to see the full artwork and for a few hints!
MORE NEW FIGURES! It’s another Gaming Great! Let’s check out the 6″ Heavy Battle Droid figure, which apparently is a “gaming great.”. It’s the focus of our Research Droids Reviews today! While Hasbro didn’t talk about any of that at Toy Fair (why would they, these are only new figures 😉 ), more and more never announced Black Series action figures are revealed. And it seems the “Gaming Greats” series which is exclusive to Gamestop is becoming a real thing this year. UK toy website “Toysarama” posted a photo of an upcoming Gamestop exclusive The Force Unleashed Shadow Stormtrooper on their page (the product page still has the text for light side Revan)! The Shadow Stormtrooper follows on the heels of the Stormtrooper Commander. Could a Starkiller figure be next? But so far all the exclusives are merely repaints. Will you try to chase this figure? No word about availability yet, I would advise you to check the Gamestop website every day. Of course Hasbro could just tell us when these figures get released, but that would probably be too easy. 😉
There’s certainly something about Stormtroopers with black armor. This version here looks even cooler than the previous “Shadow Squadron” Stormtrooper we got several years ago. This will certainly by a very sought after figure! Good luck hunting! Thanks for the various alerts!
The NPD Group, which tracks toy sales across 13 major markets, released their 2019 toy market numbers a while ago. We’re thrilled to present you with a sneak peek of the latest wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ figures. Wow. What a wave! In addition to three fabulous The Rise Of Skywalker characters, we get a long-awaited Count Dooku and Clone Commander Bly, both of which are fantastic as well. Clone Commander Bly utilizes old tooling, but Hasbro did a good job as disguising that. Count Dooku will enrage longtime 3.75″ collectors. Why in the world do we not have a quality Count Dooku figure like this in our collections yet, Hasbro? Count Dooku comes with an all-new widened lightsaber blade attachment. Zorii Bliss is another incredible addition. The figure’s mask is removable and displays a beautiful visage of Kerri Russell. The Knight Of Ren is excellent. But these characters lost their luster a bit after Episode IX. Still, Hasbro should be commended. Will we ever get them all. Sith Jet Trooper may only be a repaint, but its sculpt is underrated. And the figure works beautifully in this color too. The reviews are coming shortly, but you can enjoy rough galleries now. More images coming soon!
Starting tonight we are adding the new Gaming Greats The Black Series GameStop exclusives to our Visual Guides. Click below to check out the Stormtrooper Commander six-inch figure. You can also read all about this figure right here in our full review.

io9, your go to source for Star Wars news, has an exlusive new preview clip of a The Rise Of Skywalker bonus feature. The clip is about the massive fleet assembled by Lando Calrissian and what went into creating the scene. It turns out there are several well known ships in the fleet, a Naboo Starfighter, a U-Wing, the Ghost from Rebels, several slightly updated versions of B- and A-Wings, but since JJ Abrams wanted a massive fleet, Lucasfilm had to create 55 all new ship models from scratch for that scene. Click through for a closer look at several design sketches for the ships.

I finally catch up with season 7 of The Clone Wars. Today I talk about the latest episode from Friday. And it turns out it’s somewhat controversial. Not because of what happens in the episode, but because of what was cut from the episode. It turns out the episode has an extremely short runtime of just 18 minutes. An entire scene, running for almost 3 minutes, was removed from the old animatic, in it Wat Tambor tests a new kind of droid on a native and has him killed. What makes matters even more odd is that Lucasfilm has now begun to either delete or copyright claim the old animatics. Most copies of the videos on YouTube are gone, they were also removed (the Utapau arc and the Bad Batch arc) from Starwars.com. Why? No one really knows. They had been online for years, without any issues. Some believe Lucasfilm wants to prevent fans from comparing the old animatics to the finalized versions. But is that really so? All of that somewhat overshadows episode 3, which is unfortunate. Read my review to learn more about episode 3 and the discussion surrounding it!
Check out our sneak peek of The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ Imperial Probe Droid. I’ve heard from some readers that this is already appearing on store shelves, but not any retail locations near me. You may have seen this yourself already. If you haven’t, check out the figure. It’s nice, but I am not sure if it’s worth $30.00. Full review and gallery coming soon!
More new figures! Let’s continue diving into The Black Series [The Empire Strikes Back 40] lineup. Next up is Yoda. Hasbro didn’t choose the right card back image for Yoda. Can you tell? Check out our sneak peek of The Black Series [Phase III] 6″ Stormtrooper Commander which is a GameStop exclusive. Always a favorite character of ours, the Stormtrooper Commander action figure was a focus of highly publicized controversy if you were a collector of the 30 (77-07) line in 2008. One of the worst-handled exclusives between Hasbro and GameStop, the complaints from the collecting community and the inability to acquire the 3.75″ version of this figure caused Hasbro to re-release it. However, instead of using the fan-favorite packaging of the original release, they used the new and boring “Legacy Collection” packaging. This action upset collectors further. Why do we bring this up? Well, right now, this is the best Stormtrooper Commander that money can buy. This figure might forgive the sins of the past. Of course, we hope Hasbro gives us a super-articulated 3.75″ version using the VC140 tooling. But until they do, this is not a figure to miss. The review coming soon, but enjoy a rough gallery now! Oh, and how wonderful that “Legends” is finally getting its day in the sun.

Before the third episode of the The Clone Wars season 7 airs on Friday I review last week’s episode “A Distant Echo”. It’s part two of the four part “Bad Batch” arc and it is based on old material. Rough animatics with full dialogue were released to the public in 2015. But like the previous episode “A Distant Echo” underwent a few changes. It has a completely new scene, another scene was removed instead and it turns out some people think it’s somewhat controversial. So what is it all about? Read my spoiler review for “A Distant Echo” that continues Rex’ search for Echo, who was believed dead, but turned out to be probably alive in the previous episode!

It looks like Hasbro has made an update to the Imperial Stormtrooper (VC140) addressing the issue with yellowing torsos. JTA reader Josh sent in this image with a comparison picture featuring a newly released Stormtrooper versus an early release. The figure on the left has an obviously whitened torso compared to the earlier release, which shows signs of yellowing. Entertainment Earth still has this up for pre-order if you missed it the first time or are interested in the updated non-yellowing version.

We have a special “sneak peek” for you of The Black Series [The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary] Luke Skywalker (Bespin) figure. You’re going to love this figure. Taking the base of 2014’s The Black Series [Phase I] Luke Skywalker (#11) figure, Hasbro tooled an all-new head sculpt for this release and completely repainted the figure. More importantly, Luke Skywalker lost the rubbery texture of the 2014 plastic. This release feels solid, rigid, and unbendable by comparison. The new portrait is stunning, and the use of Photo Real makes this likeness favor Mark Hamill very much. Unfortunately, Hasbro DESTROYED the card back art. I don’t think I’ve seen a worse interpretation of the Kenner card back. The ORIGINAL images exist on Google. It’s unknown why Hasbro would attempt to recreate the original reference image this making the character look “fake.” Or perhaps Hasbro can start using the “alternate” image of Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues), that they’re absolutely unwilling to use for reasons unknown. The review is coming soon, but please enjoy packaged, loose and comparison images in our RDRs now.

In “The Bad Batch”, the Separatists give the Republic a hard time on the planet of Anaxes as they capture very important shipyards. Captain Rex cannot really explain why and how the Droid Army can so easily adapt to all of his plans. Thus he wants to gather some intel behind enemy lines. But he won’t do it alone, in addition to some regular clones and Captain Cody the “Bad Batch”, a very special team of very special clones, will join them.
