The Vintage Collection Admiral Ackbar (VC22) re-released figure looks pretty good, albeit a little too dark. Unfortunately, Hasbro didn’t correct the color of the nameplate and figure backer. (NOTE: This gallery is incomplete. Only the new figure is shown. We will update the gallery at a later date and post an update.) Check out this excellently updated figure in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.
The official Star Wars Twitter is gearing up for May 4th. And to set the mood a nice piece of Star Wars artwork was posted, announcing some good deals for Star Wars video games to celebrate the occasion.
And this gives us the perfect opportunity to play a game. What is missing from this artwork? What could it be? Try your luck in the comments section! The winner gets 100 Rose Tico 5 POA action figures! Whether you like it or not! 😛
Not even toys are exempt from politics it seems. As you know, Hasbro plans to phase out all plastic packaging by the end of 2022. They make that bold statement, but then they qualify later as “wherever possible.” But the question begs to be asked. “Will this have any future impact on The Vintage Collection?” At the moment, The Black Series 6″ packaging could easily transition to an environmentally friendly packaging style, but this isn’t true for TVC. PackWorld.com has an excellent article on this matter. Interestingly, none of the partnered brands are mentioned specifically to receive any packaging changes, but who knows if that will change? While we sure anything helps with unwanted plastic waste, it’s ironic that Hasbro’s whole existence is based on producing environmentally harmful products: plastic toys.
In recent times a new category of figures is on the rise in The Black Series: Kitbashed figures. Due to the nature of the all-new scale there were hardly any kitbashed figures for the first few years since each figure was all new and no tooling existed. But eight years later The Black Series has accumulated quite a number of sculpts and it seems Hasbro is greatly increasing their reuse of existing tooling for all new figures. So the question is: are you ok with that or would you rather have more figures will all-new tooling again? Click through for a discussion!
We continue looking at the final Kenner collection of Star Wars action figures: the 1985 Ewoks line. Let’s move ahead with the Ewoks characters now! Check out Wicket W. Warrick. Check it out! (more….)
The Vintage Collection Han Solo (Endor [In Trench Coat)]) (VC62) figure is a frustrating release. But, we have to give Hasbro credit. They made this figure look as good as it likely ever will unless they tool a new figure. The Photo Real updating is excellent, and the new color of the trench coat is great. But Hasbro changed a long-running name on this figure which will upset Kenner purists. It has many other enhancements as well. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 80-image gallery complete with all versions (2006, 2011, and 2021) featured, comparison shots, diorama shots, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Check out this excellently updated figure in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.

I went on several toy runs this week. Nearly daily I could be found at a Target or Walmart on my lunch break or after work. I picked up a couple toys in the store. I also got some new toys in the mail. None of them were Star Wars, however. I’ll share the photos of my new toys in the article here, but I want to hear your thoughts about it. Where are all the Star Wars toys?

The Vintage Collection Luke Skywalker (Hoth [Outfit]) (VC95) still needs new tooling, but the re-release is a major update. It looks good thanks to Photo Real updating and fixing matching elbow joints in the arms. It has many other enhancements as well. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 108-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2021) featured, comparison shots, diorama shots, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Check out this excellently updated figure in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.
Ra-ra-ah-ah-ah. Roma Roma-ma. Urgah, “Ooh la-la.” Want your bad romance. We continue our look at the final Kenner collection of Star Wars action figures: the 1985 Ewoks line. Let’s move ahead with “Lady Urgah” or Urgah Lady Gorneesh. Check it out! (more….)
Thank you for reading Research Droids Reviews: Season 12!
The Vintage Collection Emperor’s Royal Guard (VC105) has never looked better. And it has more than just a couple of enhancements. The Photo Real on this figure is excellent. And the new soft goods are perfection with newly fitted proportions and new beautiful drape. Hasbro also updated the red color of the figure. The subtle orange hue is now gone. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 84-image gallery complete with both versions (2012 and 2021) featured, comparison shots, and a breakdown of what separates the two releases in the Collector Notes. Check out this excellently updated figure in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.

I need your honest opinion and input about something. I had a heated back and forth with a good friend of mine on the color of The Vintage Collection’s Kithaba (Skiff Guard)’s original headband. If you recall, Hasbro changed it to red to be screen-accurate. But what color was the first version? Click through for more….
Today begins our look at the final vintage collection of Star Wars action figures. We’re opening up the 1985 Kenner Ewoks line. Let’s start with the Dulok Shaman. Find out the character’s real name! Check it out! (more….)
Following in the footsteps of the 1st Ascendancy book: Chaos Rising, collectors can pick up the tricked out collector’s edition of Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good. This will be available on August 10th, and will only cost $150. But, if you bought the Chaos Rising collector’s edition, I’m sure you will want this to go with it. If anyone is feeling generous, my birthday is August 12. Just saying. Get the full details here.

6 inch collectors get yet another option for an IG-11 action figure. Medicom Toys aka MAFEX have revealed their version of IG-11. This will be the third option for collectors. There already is a really bad Black Series figure that no one should buy and a very excellent S.H. Figuarts version that is not only screen accurate (unlike the TBS version) but comes with a few sensible accessories. MAFEX is late to the game here, but their IG-11 maybe has a few little extras that may convince collectors to pull the trigger even if they may already own the SHF version. MAFEX IG-11 comes with a tray (you see this in a scene with Kuiil) and just like the SHF version IG-11 also comes with an optional detonator part and the carry bag for Baby Yoda. But where SHF would give their IG-11 only the empty bag (you can put SHF Grogu inside the bag), MAFEX adds Grogu, but it appears he’s part of the bag sculpt and non removable.
Head to the Medicom website for more photos! There is no info on availability or price yet, we will keep you posted! Are you interested in the MAFEX IG-11?

Four brand new model kits from The Mandalorian have been announced by Bandai. A chrome plated and regular version of the Mandalorian as well as a chrome plated and regular version of the Razor Crest will be released in July. The non chrome plated regular versions are for people who’d like to paint the kits themselves, since chrome plated parts are not really suitable for that. The Mando kit will be approx. $50, the Razor Crest is approx. $22. The Razor Crest is a rather small model you can display on your desk, whereas the Mandalorian model kit is 1/12 scale of course, so you can display it with Black Series figures.
Are you interested in the model kits? The chrome plated version of the Mandalorian could be a pretty unique option, since neither Hasbro nor S.H.Figuarts really replicate the look of the shiny armor with their respective figures and the Mafex figure is not out yet so judgment is still out for their version.

I did a Target run today during lunch, and as I came around the corner to the Star Wars aisle my peripheral vision caught a sign of new products. I immediately started skipping in elation in expectation of what I would find. As I got close, my stomach free-fell instantly. My local Target just received a new case of The Rise Of Skywalker 12-Inch Figures. I could barely pick myself up to exit the store. What a major kick in the you-know-what. But Star Wars is the best it’s ever been some will say! It’s the “Golden Era” of collecting what others will say too!

Toy Runners… I have a problem. I accumulate too many parts for customs and then have a thousand projects to work on and finish them slowly! Does anyone else have a problem with this kind of accumulation of collectibles? I’m sure we all do in one way or another. It’s a good thing we can talk about it in the comments…

Today I want to talk about a very simple thing: fun. On fansites you can find lots of comments by people who sound rather disappointed, sometimes even outright angry, especially after one of Hasbro’s live events. So I wondered: how much fun is Star Wars collecting in this day and age to you? If it’s not much fun or maybe even no fun at all… what makes it no longer fun and why do you still collect? And if it’s fun to you, what exactly makes collecting enjoyable to you? So click through for a discussion about the fun (or lack thereof) of collecting!

Now if I could only get ahold of the Delta Squad 4 pack without giving up my kidney… Click here to share with us what you’ve been collecting this week!

Everyone trying to complete their prisoner’s skiff knows this. Let’s get this figure made! #CompleteTheSkiff #VoteForVelken
Sigh. I shouldn’t have walked away from Hasbro Pulse’s Fan Fest online event saying “Why does Hasbro hate The Vintage Collection collecting community so much? Why are they completely disengaged from its needs?” But I did. And between the sorry repacks confirmed, to the desperately needed repacks they’re dangling over our heads, I understand why people are fleeing from this scale left and right. The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was the announcement of the re-released Han Solo (Endor) figure. Does Hasbro store any record-keeping of their releases? Do they go to discount outlets? Do they have any indication of what fans want? (more….)

Hasbro, I am too tired to finish writing my standard “complaint” article after one of your online product reveals events, so you’ll have to come back tomorrow for that. However, I’d like to put in your ear that you need to fix the nameplate and figure backer color of Admiral Ackbar. It’s NOT green. The original 2010 figure messed this detail up, and you’re copying over the same error. The correct color is aqua. Not green or light green. Thanks.
Hasbro takes four steps forward and one step back with the Elite Squad Trooper. It’s another member of The Bad Batch and also part of the latest wave The Black Series [Phase IV] figures now hitting everywhere.. (more….)

There’s got to be a way that The Vintage Collection collecting community can get into Hasbro’s good graces that it inspires them to produce the best action figure line possible. As you all know well, it’s been a torturous uphill battle, and it often feels like they bother with us because they “have” to, not because they “want” to. I recently came across a clip of the season 1 finale of 2000’s Malcolm in the Middle television show (some of the greatest TV ever produced by the way), and I thought it was the perfect metaphor of the relationship between The Vintage Collection, The Vintage Collection collecting community, and Hasbro. And what metaphor would be complete without injecting Bea Arthur, ABBA, and buttons? Click through if you dare.
Another Mandalorian is part of the latest wave of The Black Series [Phase IV] figures now hitting everywhere. Bo-Katan Kryze is as pretty as she is an excellent action figure. (more….)

Here we go again! Another day, another inability of Hasbro to meet demand. Online retailers are beginning to cancel The Vintage Collection case assortment which contains the popular Darth Vader (Rogue One) figure. If your order got canceled, you can still pre-order singles from it at JTA sponsor Entertainment Earth, although, we have no guarantee these orders will be fulfilled either. But you may want to place an order for the case contents just in case. Special thanks to JTA reader Todd C. for the bad news update on this figure.

It’s not the change we were expecting, either! While we were waiting for an orange card with a cropped image a running change to the figure itself showed up. One of the biggest gripes for collectors with this figure was the lack of sensor bars on the chest armor. This detail appeared in the initial sculpted digital prototype shown by Hasbro when the figure was announced. I am thrilled to see this corrected in a running change! Thanks to Dustin W. for the photos. What do you think about this addition? Will you try and secure all 3 versions of this figure? Let us know in the comments.

Walmart fixed the pricing on The Black Series [Phase IV] Boba Fett. If you still need one, you can pre-order it HERE.
After Hasbro followed JTA’s advice and updated The Vintage Collection Boba Fett figure from Return Of The Jedi, they mentioned that some units in the earliest production run would feature the original and abominable card art (seen below) featuring the orange nameplate and figure backer and a zoomed-in image of the on-screen character. To date, no units have appeared for sale or arrived at retail. Was Hasbro incorrect, or are they forthcoming from a FILO method of distribution?

And if you’re one of the chosen few, you may find a kicker full of the latest The Black Series 6″ figures including Bo Katan and Asajj Ventress. Special thanks to JTA reader Jeremy S. for the image and report!
Big Box retail and The Black Series 6″ collecting community are apparently waking up to the egregiously and laughably priced 6″ “deluxe” figures line that are $30 each. Jar Jar Binks, Boba Fett, and Din Djarin should all be $19.99, not a penny more. Likewise, Teebo (Ewok), Yoda, and Jawa shouldn’t be a penny less than $19.99. Is everyone done being fooled? Hasbro needs to figure out how to amortize costs for large and small characters by budgeting the line better My local Target marked down the unforgivably priced Jar Jar Binks “deluxe” figure down to $20.99 just a couple of weeks after it hit their stores.
Unicorns do exist! I found the latest wave of The Vintage Collection at my local Target. To my amazement, Boba Fett was still hanging on the pegs and I didn’t get to the store until 11:30 AM on Saturday. Perhaps most have already given up on brick-and-mortar for Star Wars collecting and don’t bother anymore. There is little competition it seems.
Brick and mortar is generally in diastrous shape. But Walmart is looking pretty scary these days. There are no signs of life in either The Vintage Collection or The Black Series 6″ lines in any of my local stores (and most other areas too).
There is quite a bit of talk surrounding the “squished” helmet of The Black Series [Phase IV] Boba Fett (based on Return Of The Jedi). Yes, collectors shouldn’t have to remedy this unfortunate packaging issue, but it’s not the end of the world. Check out our 72-image gallery of this fantastic 6″ figure. (more….)
