Welcome to another entry in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column. Hasbro recently committed to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that there needs a modern counterpart for every classic Kenner figure. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done, and we’ll figure out where we are step by step. Today we assess three versions of Boba Fett.
The Black Series 6″ Flametrooper is awesome. All you’ll think of is Ralph McQuarrie. Check it out!. (more….)
Welcome back Toy Runners. I am so sorry about last week, but I took a sick day from everything. So we’re back with the official one-hundredth TRT!! That is very exciting. As previously mentioned, today’s theme is ‘Favorite Figures.’ Please share a photo of your top most favorite Star Wars action figure in the comments! If you have more than one, or want to also pick some non-Star Wars ones you can pick your top 5, so long as 1-2 of them are Star Wars. Good luck picking, and thanks for reading!
I finally managed to watch and review the latest Bad Batch episode “Bounty Lost”. It’s the European Football Championship (delayed for a year thanks to a certain virus), a major sport event here in Europe, which means there’s not much time to watch other things. And on Tuesday Germany will face England in Wembley in the round of the final 16 teams. Anyway, here it is, the review of the latest Bad Batch chapter. With Omega in the hands of Cad Bane and en route to hand her over to the Kaminoans she has to find a way to escape. Things don’t get easier when someone else shows up who also wants Omega. With the Bad Batch far away Omega has to fend for herself… So let’s discuss “Bounty Lost” and read my spoiler review!

Holy moly! The Prop Store YouTube channel posted a video by Phil Tippet that shows a clip of the pre-production animatics of the elaborated rancor scenes including some that never made their way to the final cut of Return Of The Jedi. You can also bid on the original videocassette of these scenes if you’re so inclined. Check it out!

In case you forgot, the next Star Wars is movie is currently scheduled for a December 2023 release. Which is not that far away anymore and thus (pre-)prodction on “Rogue Squadron” must begin soon. While director Patty Jenkins was announced last year, nothing was said about who would pen the script. Now it turns out that Jenkins is not writing the script, instead Lucasfilm hired Matthew Robinson. Click through for more.

If you were actively collecting during the fabulous The Original Trilogy Collection in 2004, you’re aware that Hasbro introduced the first “Vintage Kenner” carded figures, much to the excitement and amazement of the entire Star Wars collecting community. The Hasbro team back then realized the importance of the 1978 Star Wars toy line and the main characters that should be part of it. When choosing four characters for placement on the replica 1978 STAR WARS cards, Hasbro wisely chose Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi. These four main heroes are synonymous with the Star Wars branding. The modern counterparts started a fire in collectors to see every original Kenner figure updated in vintage Kenner packaging. So why are these four characters still conspicuously absent from The Vintage Collection after eight active years? (more….)

OK, Hasbro. You need a reality check. The current exclusive program is an unmitigated disaster. And you should be held accountable for its ineffectiveness. Unless you’re dead under a rock somewhere, you must know how pre-orders for online exclusives are COMPLETE calamities, right? This nonsense has to stop. (more….)

Notes:
UPDATE: Well, it seems ShopDisney and Walgreens decided not to go by the official pre-order time, so who knows when they will go live (probably after their sitewide promotions end). Hopefully, Walmart will do like it did with their other TBS exclusives and put them back in stock once the dust settles. We will update this article with links when they are finally added.

Hopefully, Hasbro is aware of the pure satisfaction The Vintage Collection community felt with their “I Am Your Father’s Day” presentation. After one product presentation full of repacks after another, the TVC crowd was growing weary with anger. We’re not sure what changed, but Hasbro provided a good balance of modern Disney Star Wars Entertainment with incredible announcements of character from the Original Trilogy, the way things always should be when it comes to this collection. Because the last presentation even excited us, we put together a quick list (all featured below) of six The Vintage Collection figure ideas they should either reveal or announce as part of the “pipeline” to keep that TVC fan engagement alive and well and with energetic momentum.
Hasbro, would you kindly announce/reveal Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead), 2-1B, 8D8, Tessek (Squid Head), Amanaman, or EV-9D9 as the next characters we can expect in The Vintage Collection? We guarantee you that any of these figures would continue that thunderous applause you received at the last event. Keep these developments alive and well for The Vintage Collection. Thank you. If you’re a reader, be sure to list who you want to see that makes you happy too.

Hasbro: First and foremost, THANK YOU for announcing that the long-awaited update to Bib Fortuna is finally coming in The Vintage Collection. It’s a quintessential character for the RETURN OF THE JEDI collection of characters in TVC. Previous Hasbro teams made it clear in the past that 2005’s TSC Bib Fortuna (SAGA 003) figure would be the last attempt on this character. Never say never! That said, we need to get this Bib Fortuna right, and the most important aspect of this figure will be its facial expression. Some characters and their action figures are “dependent” on a spectacular head sculpt, and Bib Fortuna is one of them. We should probably also talk about how Hasbro should address the rest of the figure as well. (more….)

JTA reader, friend, and customizer extraordinaire Alientek has put together a mock-up for us of what The Vintage Collection Republic Trooper (The Old Republic) (VC113) may look like for Hasbro to update it to current Lucasfilm standards. If they go this route, what do you think?

While Pedro Pascal himself only very recently confirmed once more that a Mandalorian season 3 is happening – check out the very interesting 31 minute talk between Ewan McGregor (fresh off the set of Kenobi, beard and all) and Pedro Pascal hosted by Variety on YouTube for more – no one really knows when the show will return. Collider however have learned a few things about the reason for the delay and when we can expect to see season 3 of The Mandalorian. Click through for more details!
What a coincidence! Just 90 days after The Vintage Collection Rebel Soldier (Echo Base Battle Gear) (VC68) figure topped our 25 Better Choices For The Vintage Collection’s Fan Channel Repack Case Assortments As Voted By JTA Readers poll, Hasbro announces it as a repack for the current line. You’re welcome? Whatever happened behind the scenes to influence this decision, it will be interesting to see what the new version looks like with Photo Real (and perhaps other changes too). It will be interesting to see if any other finalists get reissued too!
The announcement of the upcoming “in the pipeline” The Vintage Collection Lobot figure is a tremendous victory for TVC collectors. Click through to learn why this is so.
The announcement of a very first Black Series HasLab was certainly a surprise! Patrick would not reveal any details, of course, other than that the item will not be a vehicle! So what could it be? It more or less boils down to a creature and/or figures. Unless it’s a diorama piece / playset? So what would you like the very first Black Series HasLab to be? A Rancor? Jabba’s Palace playset? Or maybe a set of Cantina aliens? Leave your suggestions in the comments!

We’re receiving emails from readers asking us if we’ve sectioned off a place in our RDRs and VGs for the Lucasfilm 50 collection of Hasbro Star Wars action figures. Because the products marked with this logo are from across various lines, the best we could come up with was a search option. If you click HERE or type “Lucasfilm 50” in our RDRs search bar, you’ll be taken to a list of all the products released to date that sport the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary logo. We hope that helps you out for those that are looking for this.

Will they help me get closer to retirement with more The Ninety Six reveals (help us, Maker, you’re our only hope)? Will we see new Bad Batch 6-inch figures? Or will we see more new releases with that awful Lucasfilm 50th logo on them? Or will it be a whole bunch of nothing? Your thoughts in the comments, please!

We’re getting lots of traffic in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column, and we believe it will be the definitive source to determine where we are with Hasbro and the completion of the original 96 vintage Kenner figures updated to definitive modern status. We just finished up the first 12 STAR WARS figures, and we’re preparing for the 1979 STAR WARS figures next, including Boba Fett! As you know, JTA was known for our Vintage Vs. Modern Special Reports, but without years of Original Trilogy characters produced in 3.75-inch scale, there was little reason to continue them. Now that Hasbro has a focus to complete the Kenner Ninety Six, we’re eagerly on board to see what they do with the line. We also received some feedback from readers to help this experience be a little easier to navigate. Click through for more!
We still have new The Vintage Collection figures to check out! Let’s finish up the Gaming Greats figure with the $14.99 Heavy Battle Droid. This figure is a mess and is based on Star Wars: Battlefront II. (more….)
