Star Wars Is Popular And Obi-Wan Kenobi Brings In Record Numbers

Now that I have your attention I can tell you that the Nielsen Streaming Charts have added Obi-Wan Kenobi to their weekly charts. There is always a 4 – 5 week delay before Nielsen release the numbers, which is why their numbers for Obi-Wan Kenobi are only available now.

So how did Obi-Wan Kenobi perform? Fantastic. It’s one of the most popular Disney+ series ever and with just three episodes outperformed most other streaming shows available on Netflix and Amazon. Click through for more!

One popular character meets another fan favorite

The first three episodes accumulated 958 million minutes viewed. To provide some perspective, this is about on the same level already as the Loki season finale (the most popular Marvel Disney+ series) and right out of the gate more popular than any other Marvel Disney+ series. It’s also about 30% better than the numbers for Book of Boba Fett. It’s less than the Mandalorian season 2 finale had, but that’s about the only other show that was more popular on Disney+. And Kenobi achieved these numbers with merely 3 episodes, by far the least number of episodes of any other show on the streaming charts. That includes things like “The Boys” on Amazon with 19 episodes.

Of course we need to see how the numbers will be for the other episodes, but so far it’s clear proof that Obi-Wan Kenobi is an immensely popular character, that people love Star Wars and that the franchise remains very popular. According to Samba TV, another service that tries to gauge ratings for streaming shows, the Kenobi finale was about 20% more popular than the Book of Boba Fett finale and brought in record numbers that week. We will see what Nielsen’s numbers are saying in the next few weeks. I will post updates in the coming weeks!

Given the very high ratings for Obi-Wan Kenobi I think that Lucasfilm should seriously consider making a season 2. Yes, the writing could have been better, the action could have been better, but overall the series was fun and Ewan McGregor as Kenobi is immensely popular as proven by the numbers. Time to pop the champagne over at Lucasfilm!
