This figure topped JTA’s Fans’ Choice Poll, and once we published the results, it wasn’t long until Hasbro announced its imminent re-release. The Rebel Soldier (Echo Base Battle Gear) figure hasn’t looked better. They updated it with Photo Real deco, fixed the mismatched ankle joints, changed a few colors, and gave the boots a shiny finish instead of a matte finish. We took the time to break it all down for you by producing an all-new 56-image gallery complete with comparison shots, dioramas, and a breakdown of what separates the 2011 version from the 2021 new release in the Collector Notes. This figure is shipping in the Bib Fortuna wave, and Hasbro is selling solid case packs of the figure too. See this excellent figure updated in our RDRs now! There’s more difference here than you may realize.
Our next Visual Guide update features another Hot Toys sixth scale figure from The Mandalorian. Click below to check out the Tusken Raider (TMS028).

Today is January 30, 2022, and that means it’s been ten years since Hasbro released the Star Wars [The Phantom Menace 3D] line. Where does the time go? Although revered as a controversial lineup of a motley crew of products, it contained some of the best items we ever received from Hasbro. Yes, and it contained some of the worst products as well. Many blame Lucasfilm for the deluge of wave 1 products in this line that flooded stores everywhere. It’s believed they marketed this event as a new film, and stores bought up the products like there was no tomorrow. It would explain such an overage of products on the street date. Collectors would find “TPM 3D” products nearly everywhere for many years.
In the confusion of perplexing re-releases, overcharged 5POA action figures, and a deluge of products that rotted on shelves for years afterward, it’s easy to forget that the line did bring collectors some amazing newness and goodness. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and recapture the good, the bad, and the ugly that this line brought to the Star Wars collecting community.

Amazon has the TVC Remnant Stormtrooper (VC165) available for $13.99. Thanks to Jake for the alert!
Back in the good old days of network TV ratings for shows were usually released the day after. Streaming makes things more complicated, the various streaming services usually keep ratings secret, but Nielsen does gather data here similar to the way they do it for regular network tv. However, it always takes a few weeks before the ratings are released and the ratings are no longer for individual episodes, but the entire series. Thus the ratings will also depend on how many episodes of a show are available. So it is only now, after episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett dropped earlier this week, that we know the ratings for the pilot episode. And The Book of Boba Fett had a promising debut, it was not the #1 show on Disney+, which was Hawkeye, but there is a caveat. As mentioned, The Book of Boba Fett only had one episode available, and Hawkeye six. How are the exact numbers and how do they compare to The Mandalorian? Click through for more!

As of right now, you can STILL get 5 of the 6 The Vintage Collection 50th Anniversary exclusives from Walmart.com at retail price. Many of you will know of Star Wars 1313, the Star Wars game focusing on the Coruscant underworld and Boba Fett. The game got canceled early in development when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 and only early prototype builds ever existed. You can actually check out some prototype Boba Fett gameplay on YouTube which was leaked earlier today. The short three minute clip shows Boba walking around Coruscant’s lower levels, fully rendered and textured, before we get to see a pretty standard and highly scripted chase sequence in a barebones low poly environment without textures when Boba tries to catch a bounty. Click through to watch the video!
Hasbro extended its Star Wars license agreement with Disney yesterday. It is a multiyear deal, but no further details are known, as usual both companies would not reveal much. So it’s anyone’s guess how much Hasbro has to pay this time. This license renewal comes pretty early, the last one was only two years ago when for quite a while it seemed as if Hasbro may not want to renew the license. Hasbro did lose the Disney Princesses license, which goes back to Mattel. Instead Hasbro will make Indiana Jones toys for the scheduled 2023 release of the new movie. The last time Hasbro made Indiana Jones toys was for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
It is my hope that this new licensing agreement either contains a new “no more secrecy clause” that will grant Hasbro access to all the relevant info it needs (say, Baby Yodas or Rancors in Book of Boba Fett) or that Hasbro paid less than before.
You can read the official Hasbro press release here (but you really don’t need to)!

The Book of Boba Fett takes a break this week and instead we get a full 50-minute episode of The Mandalorian season 3 several months early! Yay! Before anyone faints because of the spoiler: this week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett is literally titled “Return of the Mandalorian” and last week’s episode even played his theme music in the last scene, so everyone should know what to expect for this week’s chapter. Now why we get a full-blown The Mandalorian episode in a show titled “The Book of Boba Fett” is another matter… something we need to discuss! So click through for my spoiler review of “Return of The Mandalorian” by clicking here or on the banner below!

To all the kindred in spirit The Vintage Collection collectors: It’s time to talk about $26.99 and $20.99 Star Wars action figures that should be $12.99 or $13.99 instead. One of my most-favorite commenters here at JTA, Sven RedBeard, either coined or stole the term “Boba Debt,” and I think it’s the PERFECT description to let Hasbro know that this insanity must stop. Adding an extra ‘hat’ does not warrant a $10-$12 increase. This line isn’t The Black Series 6-inch line, and it’s unacceptable. Hasbro needs to find ways to get back to basics (literally as in basic figures) and cease the overpricing, gouging, and abject disrespect they are showing to the longtime collectors of this line. Just because the action figure is Boba Fett doesn’t give Hasbro license to charge $20+ for it, only to release a $12.99 version after they’ve price gouged us. Something’s missing, and none of us should find this acceptable. And Hasbro, you need to right this travesty immediately.

Pre-order page is now live at Target.com for The TVC exclusive Boba Fett (Morak) figure. The price is now corrected to $20.99. Get it now before the inevitable Preorders have sold out. Check back on release date message shows up!
Update: It doesn’t appear that it ever went in stock, even though it shows that pre-orders have sold out. The The Black Series Maldo Kreis set did the same thing and showed up for pre-orders at a later date. Hopefully, that is the case this time too. Target is awesome.
EA may have lost the exclusive Star Wars video game license, with other studios developing games as well now, but that does not stop EA from developing more Star Wars games. And today EA announced three new Star Wars titles. Click through for more!
Bonus Bounties comes early as Hasbro announces The Vintage Collection Boba Fett (Morak). It seems the Deluxe line is now officially an excuse to charge $26.49 for a figure that comes with “4 entertainment-inspired accessories”. Nevertheless, you can pre-order this figure tomorrow starting at 1 PM Eastern. To be clear, this is not officially labeled as a “Deluxe” figure, but the price point is the exact same as the previous boxed Deluxe figures.
Update: Several social media groups are reporting that this is a Target exclusive
Update #2: John Miko from the Facebook TVC page is reporting a price correction from the initial press release. Now expected to be $20.99.

OK, fellow The Vintage Collection collectors. We have a question to pose to you, and we need your response. And we’re sure Hasbro wants to know as well. To date, there is an ever-increasing one-to-one relationship between what Hasbro offers in The Black Series 6-inch line to what they provide in The Vintage Collection 3.75-inch line. As of late, it feels like Hasbro is focusing on TVC and placing TBS6 on the back burner. However, there are varying interpretations of this assertion. That said, there is one sub-line of figures where a TVC counterpart doesn’t exist: the Credit Collection figures. It appears from the many comments in our reviews that collectors like their style and that they’re reminiscent of the original Marvel Star Wars comics characters. So let us ask the question. Are you interested in seeing Hasbro release a sub-line of “Credit Collection” action figures for The Mandalorian action figures in The Vintage Collection? Please add your two cents in the comments.

The Vintage Collection The Mandalorian & Grogu (Maldo Kreis) Walmart exclusive set is visually the most horrifying thing we’ve seen for packaging to date in The Vintage Collection. But the contents inside are pretty awesome. It’s still overpriced and the value feels light. But what about those knobby white ice spiders? (more….)
We are going to stick with the sixth scale for our Visual Guide updates and switch to some more Hot Toys additions. First up is the Incinerator Stormtrooper (TMS012). Click below to check out our full Visual Guide of this figure.

There is a reason I haven’t posted anything really about Star Wars action figures in a long while. Or why there is no “Best Black Series figure of 2021” list by me. I received my last (Hasbro) action figures in April 2021. Since then: nothing. As in “zero”. I currently have 25 Black Series figures on pre-order, including two full Black Series waves. I have figures on pre-order from 2020 even. So I wonder, how many figures do you have on pre-order, i.e. how many of your orders are delayed? I would assume the situation is better in the US than it is in Europe. I have reached a point where I no longer care, sure, there are some figures I would still like to get, but my life won’t end if due to various circumstances Hasbro won’t be able to fulfill all orders. Maybe it’s time to collect other things anyway. So tell me in the comments what your situation is!

Shipping notices are going out and the (delayed) The Mandalorian & Grogu (Maldo Kreis) The Vintage Collection set, and it’s finally starting to arrive on doorsteps. Let us know in the comments when you get yours and what condition they are arriving in. Also, keep an eye on the product page. Walmart’s exclusives have been known to pop in and out of stock once they start shipping.
The Vintage Collection Rebel Fleet Trooper “trooper builder” four-pack is INCREDIBLE. We get a true Lieutenant Pello Scrambas and a Captain Raymus Antilles. But there’s more! It’s astounding, but it’s also bittersweet! See why a set like this blows the stupid Stormtroopers set away! And see what Hasbro needs to do to continue on this fantastic trend. (more….)
We have one final sixth scale figure to add to the Sideshow Collectibles Visual Guide. Check out the Imperial AT-AT Driver by clicking below! Another solid trooper release to the sixth scale line.

We need to talk about the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett. We REALLY need to talk about it! The inevitable (what many actually predicted) happened and while we will talk about the episode itself, which I found to be much improved, we need to talk about that one thing as well, you know what I mean. But to spare the fragile souls of spoiler phobes I will not spell it out. But you know what I mean. So we need to talk! Please read my spoiler review of “The Streets of Mos Espa” and let’s discuss the latest entry (and that one thing) by clicking here or on the banner below!

Today, starwars.com revealed the newest product for Bring Home the Bounty. Included is a very nice-looking replica of Boba Fett’s EE-3 blaster (specifically from The Book of Boba Fett). After the sudden passing of Brian Goldner Rich Stoddart acted as interim CEO for the company, but Hasbro has now named Chris Cocks as the man who follows in Goldner’s footsteps and takes over as the new permanent CEO.
Cocks has been with Hasbro since 2016 where he was the president and COO of Wizards of the Coast (Dungeons & Dragons, Magic The Gathering) and the digital gaming division. In this time WOTC more than doubled its revenue. Before Cocks came to Hasbro he worked at Microsoft as Group Product Manager, leading XBox and MSN gaming teams, with franchises such as Halo and Fable.
What do you hope the new Hasbro CEO will do? Or maybe change? And if you were named as the new Hasbro CEO, what would you do?
