YouTube channel Nerdzoic, who also operates an online toystore, had a livestream earlier today and they had breaking news. According to them various old figures are returning to the Black Series! Click through for all the figures that are supposed to get released later this year (fall 2023)!
So what will be rereleased? All figures are for The Black Series, unless noted otherwise (there is one item for TVC)!
If accurate this would be a ton of rereleases and this raises a few questions: are the droids the old sculpts? If so… why would anyone buy them when the brand new R2-D2 with accurate scale is close to being released (he is already available from Asia)? The old astromechs are just bad jokes. Also, why rerelease Aphra and 0-0-0 but not BT-1?
Also, are those all supposed to be Archive releases or will they be sold in the original box? Updated pfp box? Or new box design with plastic tray? Some of these sets are pretty old, like the Imperial Shadow Squadron. Will it get the original box with the printed cardbord backdrop?
As for the credibility of the source, as mentioned Nerdzoic have an online toystore and they said those figures were solicited to them and they asked if they can go public with this. So it seems legitimate.
How would you feel about this enormous deluge of rereleases for the Black Series? Is this supposed to be part of Hasbro’s holiday strategy? I.e. instead of making costly all new figures and sculpts, they just rerelease a bunch of old(er) and popular figures that people pay a lot for on the aftermarket? It would be new-ish product for the holiday season, with zero tooling costs. One way to keep production costs down and to increase margins. Are there any figures on the list you want?
