Nielsen added the The Mandalorian season 3 finale last week, so why take a look at the Nielsen Streaming Charts now? Because it is quite interesting to see if The Mandalorian season 3 has strong legs or not. Especially in light of the fact that season 2 still had more than 1 billion viewing minutes one week after the Luke Skywalker finale was released. So how does season 3 compare? And how does Disney’s Peter Pan & Wendy movie perform which was added to the charts this week? I will also discuss box office projections for The Little Mermaid, for the people who are interested in how Disney is doing. Click through for more!
Today marks the official 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi. Did you see it in theaters on May 25, 1983? If you did then you are as old as me. Did you manage to snag this classic poster from the Fan Club when it was only $10? I passed on it because as a 12-year-old I had no such thing as money. I did manage to see it on opening day at Showcase Cinemas in Louisville, KY… the same theater I saw Star Wars at. Sadly, Showcase Cinemas was wiped from the earth in 2010. But, it was always ‘the theater’ to go to during the Original Trilogy release!
Hurry! This will probably sell out fast! The Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary double-sided one-sheet is now available at Disney Movie Insiders for 400 points.
If you don’t have enough points, you can pick some up on eBay!
Update: While today’s Wins Day allotment is out, there will be a small allotment available again tomorrow starting at 12 PM Eastern in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi. If you slept on today’s release, you’d better be ready tomorrow!
Today is the 15th Anniversary of Research Droids Reviews. Where does the time go? The Star Wars IP has gone to hell in a handbasket, but at least a few good toys get released here and there. For many, it is the only source of engagement we have. But as we enter our 15th season of this column, we will continue to bring the latest figures and collectibles from Hasbro and other companies to our database and keep the momentum going. Thank you for your patronage after all of these years. Let’s look at the re-released Boba Fett (Prototype Armor) figure. (more….)

Another week, another update for the Nielsen Streaming Charts. They added episode 8 of The Mandalorian season 3, the finale. So how did it do and how does it compare to the previous season? And how does The Mandalorian, how do all the Star Wars series, compare to the Marvel shows? I added some charts to visualize all the numbers so you can better see how season 3 and 2 compare when it comes to viewership and how the various Star Wars and Marvel season finales compare! Bob Iger announced a while ago that as part of Disney’s new cost saving program that not only would the company fire thousands of people, cut content production budget and space out shows much more, and, as revealed yesterday, surprisingly close down the Star Wars hotel after mere 18 months, it was also announced that content would be removed from Disney+ to save costs. Now you may wonder how a company can save costs by removing content that is already produced. Simple answer: residuals, i.e the people involved with the show do get some money as long as a series is available on streaming. Back in the day residuals were paid to creatives when a movie or show was broadcast on tv, even repeats, with streaming it is of course somewhat different. Anyway, so what original Disney+ series will get removed from the service? Click through for the full story!

Visions volume 2 was released almost two weeks ago and I took me this long to go through all the shorts, which usually are 11-15 minutes long give or take a minute. Still, I found it difficult this time to watch more than one at a time. In my opinion Visions Volume 2 is a lot worse than Volume 1 and Volume 2 not only highlights what is wrong with entertainment in general these days, but also highlights why Visions, which is, in principle, a very good idea, has completely gone off the rails. So click through for my take on Visions volume 2, the good, the bad and the very ugly.

Regal Robot has unveiled its latest magnet collection releases: the Mythosaur™ Magnet – Beast Collection and Bo-Katan™ Mythosaur™ Signet Magnet. Click below for a closer look at each one.
We’re just getting our FIRST LOOK EVER at a living Mythosaur! Using reference provided by Lucasfilm, the detail-obsessed artists at Regal Robot have crafted a magnet based on the beast’s appearance in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Though only shown in the shadows in the show, this new mini-sculpture showcases all of the monsterous details of this mythical creature.
It’s another scam! Hasbro thinks you’re too dumb not to realize they’re ripping you off by charging you a “deluxe” price for a basic action figure. It’s a shame, too, because Paz Vizsla is awesome. (more….)

Hasbro presented their numbers for fhe first quarter of 2023 two weeks ago. This is usually on my radar, but I was a bit busy, so I only get to talk about it now. And to make it as short and painless as possible: it’s horrible! And Star Wars toys are almost certainly once more in dire straits. Click through for more!

I finally finished Jedi Survivor and it’s time to review the game. I was actually hesitating to pull the trigger because I am one of the people who were thoroughly unimpressed by Fallen Order and the reports about the glaring technical issues of Survivor made me think hard. But it is Star Wars, I want to like a Star Wars game, I would love to have a great single player Star Wars game… so I did buy it eventually.
So how is the game? Should you buy it? Is it worth your time and money? Short answer: no. Long answer, please read my (lengthy) review in which I try to explain why I feel that Jedi Survivor (as well as Fallen Order) is a very, very undercooked game that at best offers a very mediocre and lackluster experience when compared to similar games.
Also: really, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME JUST YET! It does have game breaking bugs. There are reports of serious savegame bugs that completely erase your progress, the savegame gets corrupted and that is it. There is no cloud save feature in this game. No backup saves. No manual save points you can fall back to. Performance both on PC and consoles is atrocious, even more so on PC, the game is a (micro)stuttery mess, not unplayable, I did manage to make it through the game, but it was never ever a truly smooth experience. Wait at least another few weeks, when Respawn has released a couple more patches that resolve all the glaring issues.
But then again, my advice is not to buy this game at all and if you really want to feel like a Jedi just play Mass Effect Legendary Edition as a bionic character, trust me, it is much more satisfying and fun. Or play a very similar but vastly superior game like Ghost of Tsushima or God of War 2018/Ragnarok. Your money will be better spent here.
We are close to the finish line! Nielsen added the seventh season 3 The Mandalorian episode to their charts, which was part one of the grand finale! And the ratings are down compared to last week. It seems Lizzo and Jack Black convinced quite a few fans to tune out and not to bother with the finale. Click through for more!

As you may know Return of the Jedi was rereleased in theaters to celebrate its 40th anniversary. And without much promotion by Disney the rerelease had a pretty decent weekend for such an old movie almost everyone will already have watched at least one time in their life, it earned almost $4.7 million, which was good enough for the fifth position.
US box office was pretty slow this weekend, the Super Mario Bros. movie still dominates the charts (making it painfully obvious how much Disney has failed with its recent animated movies, since Super Mario Bros. is obliterating them, Super Mario Bros. just crossed the $1 billion global box office threshold this weekend). The somewhat slower weekend however made it possible for Return of the Jedi to climb all the way up to 5th place. Actually, according to Box Office Mojo Return of the Jedi has the highest per theater average of all movies, even a little higher than Super Mario Bros. because it is just a limited release, with only 475 theaters showing the movie in the US. In comparison, the box office flop for Hasbro that is Dungeons & Dragons is in 2,709 theaters, and made less money than Return of the Jedi.
Anyway, the decent performance of the Return of the Jedi rerelease is perhaps a sign that Star Wars is not as dead some people believe it to be. But then again, it’s one of the classic Lucas movies.
The Black Series [Phase IV] Cassian Andor figure is another excellent release. Interestingly, the TVC figure was available first. (more….)
