The Saturn Award is presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. It was founded in the early 1970s because its founder believed that genre movies lacked recognition in Hollywood, so in a way the Saturn Awards are something like the Oscars for genre movies or the movie equivalent of the Hugo Award. Membership in the Academy is open to the public, some of the members are genre directors such as James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams.
