An article in Empire magazine reveals the timeline for Episode IX. Now, if you want to know more, just click through. If you want to know nothing, well, then don’t click through. It’s as simple as that!
Scans from an Episode IX article in the latest Empire magazine are making the rounds and in the article John Boyega is quoted saying that Episode will take place roughly one year after the events of The Last Jedi.
Also, Oscar Isaac is quoted in the article saying that the rag-tag band of Rebels can be compared to guerilla fighters in Cuba.
These are the two tiny tidbits we now more or less officially know.
So… a time jump of one year is better than 5 minutes, most certainly. But one has to wonder how the Rebels could realistically rebuild troops and morale in roughly one year and how characters can evolve in one year. I suppose there won’t be too many changes. But let’s wait and see. Episode IX is still almost a year away. Not even a trailer has been announced yet. We probably won’t get one in 2018, it was speculated that it might be released alongside Mary Poppins, but no such thing happened.
What do you think? Do you believe a time jump of one year is ok and gives the movie enough time to evolve characters? It’s the same time jump as between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Incidentally, ROTJ also had lots of guerilla style asymmetrical warfare. I really hope the similarities end here.
