No new The Vintage Collection reveals. No new The Black Series 6″ reveals. No HasLab. Does all of this mean something?
Toy Fair this year was an Original Trilogy extravaganza (but still not good as the “Jabba’s Sail Barge” year), and that’s saying a lot since there were no new action figures revealed. But as JTA assumed, Vicki Stratford, we’re confident, had a lot to do with that. The most magnificent Toy Fair presentation of our lifetimes was under her watch in 2010. The Big AT-AT, The Clone Wars [Shadow Of The Dark Side] toy line, The Vintage Collection launch, the greatest Comic Packs sets ever, and the best retailer exclusives of all time were all things she oversaw. So no surprise there. She understands collectors. Also, how much of this was already planned by her predecessor?
Did anyone else find it interesting that not one new Disney Star Wars items were shown? Is it possible that Hasbro has figured out that the Disney era stuff doesn’t perform like it should perform at retail, and they realize now how important the focus on the Original Trilogy is? Or is this just a coincidence? There are other OT things that I thought they were going to reveal but didn’t, but you all know how they string things along now for multiple convention events throughout the year.
While all of this could change on a dime, I am VERY curious how the merchandise for Episode IX will be marketed and developed. And if they’ll keep a strong presence of the OT while that stuff is released concurrently. If they’re smart, they will.
