Disney+ Star Wars Series Rumors

Rumors about several Disney+ Star Wars series are making the rounds. And while one of the rumors, a potential Bo-Katan/Cara Dune Mandalorian spin-off series is very likely not true, rumors about the upcoming Kenobi miniseries and a Boba Fett series seem to have more substance. So click through for a brief summary of the recent rumors!

Boba Fett in The Mandalorian

Getting his own show?

Let’s talk about Kenobi first. The series has seen several delays, some of them because of changing personnel behind the scenes and extensive rewrites, and then the pandemic hit and further complicated matters.

But according to reports filming for Kenobi is scheduled for March 2021 and while no release date has been given yet 2022 seems to be a likely option.

Website “Illuminerdi” claims to have exclusive casting news for Kenobi. According to their sources Lucasfilm is currently casting four roles for the series:

  • Riley (aka Eve) Female (20-25) CO-LEAD – A female BIPOC whose character details are being kept under wraps
  • Tia Female (30s) SUPPORTING – BIPOC
  • Harold Male (Late 20s-30s) SUPPORTING – A quirky, comedic male
  • Bella Female (40s) SUPPORTING – Latina

In case someone wonders, “BIPOC” stands for “Black, Indigenous, Person of Color”.

“Illuminerdi” also reports that three actresses are currently considered for the female co-lead “Riley” (all the names on the list are most certainly code names and not the actual character names):

Anula Navlekar

Naomi Scott

Thuso Mbedo

Of the three Naomi Scott is the best known actress, she portrayed Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin live action movie. Thuso Mbedo has appeared on several tv shows in the US, whereas Anula Navlekar has the least experience and is more or less a complete unknown.

Nothing is known about what role “Riley” will play, certainly not Kenobi’s love interest (although, you never know, nights on Tatooine sure can get lonely). Who would be your favorite to play the female co-lead besides Ewan McGregor?

Then there are some more details about the rumored Mandalorian spin-off “Boba Fett”. The series is said to be set before The Mandalorian, which means it will explore the time period between Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian. Temuera Morrison will of course be Boba Fett, you saw him in the Mandalorian season 2 opener. Two of his co-stars are said to be Sophie Thatcher and Jordan Bolger.  Sophie has starred in a few tv shows, including “The Exorcist”. She’s an American and not brunette. Is Britain running out of brunette actresses after Felicity Jones and Daisy Ridley? Jordan has appeared in several tv shows, among them “Peaky Blinders” and “The 100”.

Boba Fett could start filming even before Mandalorian season 3, which could mean the miniseries might be released before season 3 of The Mandalorian airs, since the show is meant to lead into The Mandalorian it’s not entirely impossible that some Mandalorian characters will appear in Boba Fett as well. The setting would almost certainly be Tatooine.

So, what are your thoughts here? Who would be your casting choice for Kenobi’s female co-lead? And would you look forward to a Boba Fett series?

And as usual, take all of this with a grain of salt, even though major sites like Deadline (among others) report the rumors they are still just that: “rumors”. So it could be wrong. We should know more very soon! But one thing is certain, Lucasfilm will develop more Star Wars shows for Disney+, as their focus is shifting to Disney’s streaming service.
