Qui-Gon Jinn is a wise but unconventional Jedi Master. The noble Jedi finds himself in the middle of tumultuous events that begin with a mission to Naboo to help settle a simple trade dispute.

We understand the need for Hasbro to reuse some of their better sculpts for release after release to help round out the various lines, but at what point does it become taking advantage of collectors? The incessant repacking is becoming even too much for us top handle and we have been Hasbro’s staunchest defenders of this practice for years. What may add insult to injury is that hasbro does nothing new to them to make them worthy of another purchase. Qui-Gon Jinn from 2008’s TAC The Jedi Legacy Evolutions set has become the poster child for a repacked figure. Hasbro has released it thrice in 2012 alone. We really have to ask them if that is necessary. And isn’t it also insulting that Hasbro feels it’s alright to include the same exact figure into the premium The Vintage Collection line in addition to the kid-focused Movie Heroes line? (Oh, we see. The exclusion of his soft-goods robe and in its place an action feature blaster makes it kid friendly right? Sigh.)

Qui-Gon Jinn has been overworked and overused in the basic figure line and it needs retirement, at least the way it is right now. Interestingly a few tweaks to this figure would make him definitive. If you’re a carded collector, then you’re going to have to take a deep breath, bite the bullet and pick up Qui-Gon Jinn for yet another time. If you’re a loose collector, you may not want to be bothered. if you absolutely must have the included ascension blaster, it has been included both here and with the Qui-Gon Jinn (MH10) figure from Hasbro’s new Movie Heroes line. Either way, the nuts and bolts of it is that you’re getting the same exact Qui-Gon Jinn that was included first with 2009’s LC Qui-Gon Jinn And Eopie mail-away exclusive. (This version of Qui-Gon Jinn is a repaint of the one included in 2008’s TAC The Jedi Legacy Evolutions set.)

We have to be honest with you. We are totally accepting of the fact that main characters need to be on shelves at all times, but in the case of this Qui-Gon Jinn figure it’s complete overkill. There are so many actions Hasbro could have done to make each release of him unique from the next. They’ve developed an all-new (and very cool) head sculpt for the light-up lightsaber version of Qui-Gon Jinn (also in the Movie Heroes line) so why couldn’t they retool it to make it fit on the Evolutions version of Qui-Gon? Fans for years have been asking for a better head sculpt on this figure. It’s annoying, it’s frustrating, and it’s one more figure that is in danger of clogging the pegs which ultimately prevents the new figures from entering retail. Enough is enough. It’s time to put this sculpt to bed. We’re tired of looking at him and we need a revised version of it for Qui-Gon to be considered definitive anyhow. Please listen to this advice Hasbro.
