Jedi Council member Agen Kolar fought bravely at the Battle of Geonosis. Mace Windu considers him one of the Jedi Order’s finest members and asks Agen to go with him on a mission of great importance to the Republic.

If we dared criticized the Original Trilogy, we would have to say that there wasn’t ample opportunity to present both good and bad characters of the same species. For example, there wasn’t a good Trandoshan. There was Bossk who was after the Rebel heroes. Then there was Ponda Baba (Walrus Man). We had no idea that the Aqualish, Separatist or not, served in office to represent the greater good. We just knew them to be the easily angered bar toughs at Chalmun’s Cantina. We sort of developed an unhealthy ethnocentrism towards the alien species that perhaps still lasts in our minds today. It may be part of the reason why it’s so hard for classic Star Wars fans to warm up to Episode I, Episode II or Episode III. All of this changed in the Prequel Trilogy. And we began seeing aliens and other humanoid Jedi characters that we once thought were “bad” now serving the greater good. Agen Kolar sort of fits into this theory. After all of us witnessed just how evil Darth Maul was in Episode I, we probably didn’t even realize that Jedi Council member Eeth Koth was of the same species, but he was.

And now Agen Kolar, who fought valiantly in the Battle of Geonosis makes another appearance in Revenge Of The Sith to confront Chancellor Palpatine and arrest him for treason along with Mace Windu, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto. (Things didn’t go so well as you know.) But where things went really well was with Hasbro’s action figure. Agen Kolar may just be one of the finest designed Jedi in all the Revenge Of The Sith toy line. And aside from the wrong colored lightsaber blade (it should be blue and not green), Agen Kolar is the only Jedi that comes with his Jedi outer robes as was seen in Episode III. So Agen Kolar is probably as close to perfect as we’re going to get him for the time being. We would have preferred to see soft-goods outer robes, but for some reason Hasbro decided to create a rather complicated three-pieced concoction that actually looks very good, but yet odd. The robe separate at the sleeves, so you’re left with two sleeves and a shell and all pieces are completely removable. We suppose it’s a nice change of pace, but we really don’t expect Hasbro to continue forward with this method for future figures.

Once you disrobe Agen Kolar, you’ll quickly see what a great silhouette he has. He looks lean and athletic and we actually prefer him without his outer robe (pieces) on his body. Despite all of the work that went into developing a three piece plastic molded outer robe, Hasbro gave Agen a velvety full length skirt that is tailored close to his body. It looks fantastic, but sadly it isn’t removable for even further options. As a result, posing him in some more action oriented stances is a bit cumbersome. The head sculpt is excellent and we’re not sure if Hasbro could give us a better looking one quite honestly. His skin color is spot on and his lightsaber comes in two pieces, the hilt and the blade and we love this functionality although it’s much easier to break these accessories when they are made in this manner. Agen Kolar is a very fine action figure. The inclusion of ball-jointed shoulders and knees just put this action figure in the premium zone for us. It’s just a shame that Agen Kolar didn’t have a bigger role in Episode II and Episode III. (He had much larger roles in the Expanded Universe like so many other Jedi as well.) But give Agen Kolar a major role in your collection. He’s worthy of it.
