Obi-Wan's leadership during the Clone Wars earns him a well-deserved reputation as an outstanding general. He battles the Separatist forces with the help of clone troopers who operate AT-RT vehicles in the thick of battle.
A big portion of the final moments of the Clone Wars took place on Utapau in Revenge Of The Sith. That is the planet where Star Wars fans were introduced to the 212th Attack Battalion, led by Clone Commander Cody. So when it came time for Hasbro to develop the popular Order 66 TARGET exclusive sets, Utapau was a natural decision on which to base a two-pack. The Obi-Wan Kenobi/AT-RT Driver (4 of 6) isn’t the greatest of the Order 66 sets, but it does bring a newly colored AT-RT Driver in orange color flashes that nicely complements the Utapau Clone Troopers and Airborne Troopers we already have in our collections. Both of the figures in this set are newly repainted Revenge Of The Sith figures, so if an exclusive is based on figures from this line they could be really good or really bad. We think this set ranks somewhere in between.
Obviously the better figure right off the bat is the AT-RT Driver. A repaint of 2005’s ROTS AT-RT Driver (III 54) figure, this super-articulated figure looks slightly out of place in the basic figure lineup. Something about the orange Utapau color flashes makes it look more like he is wearing a clown suit than actual armor to help protect him from the many battles faced in the Clone Wars. Something about this pattern works extremely well for the plain clones (last seen in the basic figure line as 2006’s TSC Clone Trooper (SAGA 026) figure), but it has an almost opposite effect for the AT-RT Driver. Just like the original 2005 Revenge Of The Sith figure, the Order 66 AT-RT Driver also comes with interchangeable battle-damaged chest armor. It’s a decent extra accessory, but it makes the clone look extraordinarily bulky. It would have been better just to include a permanently battle-damaged chest instead on this unique version of the AT-RT Driver.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitely a letdown. Hasbro slightly repainted 2005’s ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi (III 1) figure and added a soft-goods robe. The soft-goods cloak covers up a lot of what is wrong with the figure, but if you have the 2005 version, you know that it is very far from perfect. Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with an interchangeable hand that permanently holds his lightsaber and a lightsaber hilt which can be stowed away in the hole on his belt line. Together the figures look pretty good together. Hasbro has little to no difficulty making Obi-Wan Kenobi action figures look good, so it sort of takes some of the sting away that the figure included here is minimally articulated and ridden with an action feature. But overall, the Order 66 (4 of 6) set is great for fans of the 212th Attack Battalion. An Utapau AT-RT Driver has yet to appear in any Expanded Universe source, but if you like clones with orange color flashes, you know this one is for you!
