TBD

If there was any doubt to what the correct source to 2006’s Chewbacca Mini Bust was, all collectors need to do is look at 2008’s Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt) Mini Bust. Chewbacca’s hair for the most part was slicked back in Episode IV and it wasn’t until Episode V that we started to see him let his hair down a bit and portray a more flyaway look. Gentle Giant Ltd. developed and excellent Episode V or Episode VI version of Chewbacca in the Mini Bust line, so they thought it would be clever to make a Previews Exclusive version that utilized a similar sculpt but yet make it very screen specific from The Empire Strikes Back. It is indeed a clever piece and very enjoyable and in a way it pays homage to the Hasbro figure. We have noticed over time that Gentle Giant Ltd. respectfully mimics Hasbro and produces products that complement the 3.75” line. They have clearly done this with Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt).

When you compare Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt) to the standard Chewbacca Mini Bust, you’ll notice that they vary quite a bit in the paint job department. Attribute the differences to less or more lighting, but we feel that this was more of an oversight than an intention to make it different from the 2006 Chewbacca Mini Bust. We won’t vilify Gentle Giant’s efforts here, because they’ve employed care to make an excellent version of Chewbacca here. It is just our opinion that his coloring is ever so slightly off and perhaps too light. Of course, as we have just stated, Chewbacca could have been based on resource materials that cast him in bright light. He is holding his bowcaster in the same fashion as the original piece, but this time he is wearing a gas mask sop he can breath inside the interior of the space slug. It would have been ideal if Gentle Giant Ltd. added a mynock that attached to his bowcaster to replicate what was experienced in The Empire Strikes Back.

Limited to 2500 pieces, Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt) has a much lower edition size that his original counterpart. A Previews Exclusive, this Mini Bust should be easy to locate and purchase for your collection. Not only is the edition size generous enough to reach all those who want him, Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt)’s availability will be widespread since Previews is distributed through Diamond Select which provides product to most comic shops, online sellers and other retailers. Gentle Giant Ltd. has opened up the door now to find new and fun ways to released previously existing Mini Busts. if they keep the quality and uniqueness similar, they’ll continue to capture our attention with these types of pieces. Besides, what Star Wars collectors aren’t enamored of Chewbacca and all the collectibles Star Wars licensees can make of him? Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt) is a fun piece. Just remember.... this is no cave!
