Gentle Giant Ltd. is evidently thinking outside of the box when it comes to collectibles in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. And they do so while appealing to adult collectors who grew up with the original vintage Kenner line of action figures. Boba Fett is a safe collectible no matter how he is released, but to date, Gentle Giant Ltd. marks the third release of Boba Fett in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner line with Boba Fett (First Shot), a collectible that pays homage to one of the “holiest grails” in the entire world of Star Wars collecting. No known completed examples exist, so Gentle Giant Ltd/ took it upon themselves to release the ultra cool Boba Fett [Rocket Firing] Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure a while back. Now it’s time for the Kenner “first shot” version of this action figure, where the figure is just cast in its base blue plastic color and without any other deco. Only a few of these “first shot” samples made it outside of the Kenner factory and have become one of the most sought after collectibles of all time. As you can imagine, the aftermarket prices are almost unattainable.

Gentle Giant Ltd. now honors history once again with the release of their own 12” version of this classic and nearly priceless action figure. Gentle Giant Ltd. has scanned an original Kenner Boba Fett action figure, re-engineered the J-slot firing mechanism and applied it to the large scale. What’s more, they left the 12” figure unpainted to recreate exactly how this figure sample made it into the hands of lucky collectors. Boba Fett (First Shot) also includes a red missile and a black blaster for its accessories. If you dig vintage-inspired packaging, then you’re going to love how this version of Boba Fett comes. Packaged on a re-closable blister card, the Boba Fett (First Shot) Jumbo Vintage Kenner figure has also been placed inside of a clear plastic poly bag with the Kenner logo stamped on it. How cool is that? Obviously this is a novelty item and only lucky members of Gentle Giant Ltd.’s Premier Guild will be fortunate enough to have the opportunity to add it into their collections. But you have to admit that the finished product looks pretty cool and will have many drooling for it on the aftermarket.

Boba Fett (First Shot) comes with five points of articulation, just like the two Boba Fett figures before it. He’s nothing you haven’t already seen before in this line, but he will certainly hold a special place in the hearts of those collectors that adore all the classical things remotely related to Kenner. At this point we have to consider some things however. Wouldn’t collectors buying this line rather have a Luke Skywalker (Jedi Knight Outfit) or Emperor’s Royal Guard Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure instead? Wouldn’t it be more interesting to see how Gentle Giant Ltd. executes those soft-goods and multiple accessories the characters from the later Kenner lines had? Don’t get us wrong. We think Boba Fett (First Shot) is a very neat concept, but we already have two other Boba Fett figures in this scale and we’re interested in seeing something a little less predictable. That being said, we don’t mean to cheapen the sentimentality of this collectible. We love it, we just want more diversity.
