Do you ever wonder how Genetle Giant Ltd considers which of the original Kenner vintage figures that had running change variants to copy over into their popular Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line? They’ve captured some remarkable ones to date like Han Solo [Small Head], Yoda, The Jedi Master and the Yak Face Tri-Logo versions. But then there are some that surprise us they didn’t replicate in this line. Take for intsance IG-88 (Bounty Hunter). There are two clearly different versions released in the Kenner line. One version was cast in a dull gray plastic, while the other was cast in a shimmery, almost sterling silver color. Thankfully, Gentle Giant Ltd. has chosen the latter version to bring forth into the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line and it may just be one of our most favorite releases of all. The emotional ties we have to this figure are powerful. Not only does it remind us of the classic 3.75” 1980 Kenner figure, it also immediately reminds us of the IG-88 Large Size Action Figure which is the rarest of all Kenner figures in this scale. As you can imagine this puts the nostalgia into overdrive for us. Excuse us while we wipe the tears.

IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) is a gorgeous figure in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. It’s tall, foreboding, threatening, and fantastically vintage Star Wars. You’re going to love it too. IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) correctly stand taller than the other figures in this line. Some has squabbled that the scale isn’t perfect in this line. We haven’t measured each one individually to confirm or deny this claim, but we just know that in general the figures look great. But IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) is the best example of perfection yet in this line. Well, this is true at least for us. Flawlessly decorated in bright silver paint with black and orange accents, IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) couldn’t have been rendered in a more exciting fashion. He comes complete with upsized versions of the weapons the 1980 figure did, and with careful prodding you can get the assassin droid to hold them in its hands (be careful putting them in the hands) firmly (and awesomely) and help to recreate the scene on the Executor in Episode V. With an articulation head and articulated limbs, IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) is the epitome of how all figures in this line should be approached.

The packaging to this figure is awesome for the most part, but it comes with a disappointing error. For reasons unknown, the art department at Gentle Giant Ltd. accidentally forgot add the “I” in “STRIKES” on the figure’s card back art. For a collectible this expensive, collectors demand perfection at this level. Gentle Giant Ltd. should send out replacements to those that received this error. (Gentle Giant Ltd/ has claimed that not all have this error, but we cannot confirm that.) IG-88 (Bounty Hunter) was one of the first bounty hunters released in The Empire Strikes Back line and it makes sense why the droid is one of the earliest characters from this film to be made in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. All of the bounty hunters are confirmed for this line, and you can bet that there will be a rate race to claim them all as the ultimate bounty in zealous Star Wars fan’s collection. This one is a must-have. It’s definitely one of their greatest successes in the line. We just can’t get over how well it’s been done. Hopefully we have sold that point loudly and clearly to you.
