Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) - SW [S - P1] - Basic (’02 #07)

Man, Boba Fett had a lousy attitude even as a youngster. We all witnessed the sneers Boba Fett gave Obi-Wan Kenobi during the infamous Kamino confrontation. Not falling far from the tree, Boba Fett is the unaltered clone of Jango Fett as well as his son. Hasbro decided to present the Star Wars action figure buying public with a multilayered version of Boba Fett. Properly called Boba Fett (Kamino Escape), this iteration of Boba Fett recreates the very wet scene where Boba Fett and his father Jango flee Kamino after an interruption of battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi. There are some "Expanded Universe" portions of this action figure too, which seemingly appear to be the next progression of the character, but indeed not things we witnessed seeing in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. The inclusion of accessories like Jango's helmet or the jetpack are beautiful accompaniments for Boba Fett, but we only saw the on-screen character don a simple Kaminoan attire in the film. It's all good because these extra pieces help recreate some additional play value that the movie scenes don't provide.

When fully stripped down, Boba Fett is wearing the same outfit as the rest of the young clones on Kamino. Hasbro replicated the multi-colored blue outfit nicely, but the figure's likeness isn't perfect. Boba Fett's stance is widespread, and the figure has a hole in its back to accept Jango's jetpack. Thankfully, a rain poncho (or shawl) covers up the hole on the back quite nicely. Boba Fett cannot don Jango Fett's jetpack while wearing the rain poncho, so you need to remove it first. You can create a miniature version of Jango Fett, thanks to removing a removable helmet, removable jetpack, and two Westar-34 blaster pistols with blast effects. You'll notice that the Westar-34 blaster pistols are different from Jango Fett's. They have pointier noses, so the blast effects attach to them. You might want to make a mental note of this when packing the action figures away to ensure that you've got the right accessories with the correct figures. There are many bells and whistles with Boba Fett (Kamino Escape), but much of it isn't screen-accurate. You may or may not care about this, but it seems that most collectors strive for screen accuracy first.

Boba Fett arrives minimally articulated. The figure comes with seven points of articulation. That said, if you have it wearing the poncho, you cannot achieve any upper body movement. The inclusion of a soft-goods poncho would be ideal and, frankly, a much better option here. As a result, you're left with an action figure that looks good but isn't too functional. The portrait isn't terrible, but we're not sure if we look at it and think that it looks just like the actor from the film, because it doesn't. But you do know this is Jango Fett's only son. And we know this small child will one day grow up to become the most notorious bounty hunter in the entire galaxy. As an action figure, it does what you need it to do. Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) looks fantastic hanging out around Jango Fett's Slave I (which eventually becomes Boba's vehicle). And the figure also looks excellent next to the Taun We (Kamino Cloner) figure. You have to remove all of the Mandalorian garbs, however. We love it the most when action figures come with flexibility, and it is for sure that this is what Boba Fett (Kamino Escape) brings to the action figure lineup. Hopefully, time will give us a super-articulated version, but in the meantime, this one should suffice.
