At the Battle of Hoth, Luke Skywalker fought bravely against the Empire in an effort to buy time for his fellow Rebels to make their escape. After his snowspeeder was shot down by an AT-AT Walker, he continued the fight on foot, taking down one of the metal behemoths with only his lightsaber, a grappling hook and a plasma grenade before making his own retreat.

Oh what magic the Mini Bust line is able to capture in “frozen” one-sixth scale. Sure, maybe they’re only “half” of the character you saw in the film, the unprecedented amount of detail that goes into these pieces is truly remarkable. Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) is really no exception. We’re not exactly jumping up and down over modular Mini Busts, but we have to hand it to Gentle Giant Ltd. for capturing almost every scene possible from The Empire Strikes Back. (PGMs really benefit here by the inclusion of the lightsaber hilt and blade extra.) Always waiting for something from the cold planet of Hoth, Gentle Giant Ltd. Mini Bust collectors can now have a stunning version of Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) in their Mini Bust collection. The sculpt, design, pose and hand painted art make up a truly divine interpretation of Luke Skywalker as he battle huge AT-ATs during the Battle of Hoth. The Mini Bust line isn’t losing steam. And as each year goes by we’re stunned by how we never get bored hearing about the latest entries in this line. Let’s just say that Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) has amped up our interests even further.

Technically a Deluxe Mini Bust as noted by the multiple modular arm attachments and pieces, the Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) brings quite a bit more to the table than previous Deluxe efforts. Extra arm/hand attachments are a good thing if you’re into the Deluxe platform, but it is the accessories that these extremities are holding that really make it the most interesting. Still, it’s the finer details like the texture in the snow suit her is wearing and the details in the helmet that make the Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) Mini Bust stand out from among the rest. A right arm with a rappel gun, a right arm with a blaster pistol other interchangeable left arms give Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) the diversity he needs. There was quite a bit of screen time in The Empire Strikes Back of Luke wearing this outfit, so it’s great to see Gentle Giant Ltd. incorporate as many of the as possible into this Mini Bust. From the absolutely gorgeous paint applications of the wrinkly flight suit to the dirty and worn appearance of his helmet, it’s evident that no expense was spared to produce a remarkable collectible for fans of the Mini Bust line.

Most of the face of Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) is covered by the cap and helmet, but there is a strong resemblance to actor Mark Hamill here. Translucent yellow goggles cover his face from the bridge of his nose up, but you still know clearly that this is Luke Skywalker. There is no mistaking him for a generic snowspeeder pilot. The color of his face and the fit of his chin strap is also perfect as well. Even the “grayer” appearance of his chest box is spot on and we don’t think they could have done a better job on them. If we had to pick, we would have to comment on the MSRP of Mini Busts currently. Originally hanging around the $45 mark, Mini Bust are nearly double that after more than a decade from their inception. That’s a bitter pill to swallow and regardless of inflation, that is an expense many collectors just can’t bear anymore. Judging by the small edition size of 1500, it’s apparent that the prices are affecting how well these pieces sell. We still need to express however that Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) has thoroughly impressed us and it’s one of the best Mini Busts based on Luke Skywalker we have ever seen. Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder Pilot) is a Mini Bust for you. It’s worth your consideration.
