It’s not too often that Sideshow Collectibles releases accompanying products to their 1:6 Scale Figures in their 1:6 Scale Figure Environments line. And when they do make these interactive environmental pieces, they don’t think that much outside of the box. That isn’t a dig of course, because “basic” goes a very long way with Star Wars collectors. How often does Hasbro overlook the obvious and release something else that wasn’t necessarily wanted or needed. The great thing about Sideshow Collectibles is that they’re definitely with releasing fantastic collectibles with quality and their choices have been right on the money. Even the multiple cantina focused environments they made have been done with incredible grace and precision, allowing collector to build portions of a much-larger cantina “playset” that will never come from Hasbro in the modern line. Then there are environmental pieces that function like accessories because, well, they are accessories. That’s exactly what the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster does for the 1:6 Scale Figures line, specifically the awesome Snowtrooper 1:6 Scale Figure that was released separately but around the same time as this piece.

There is one word that describes the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster: awesome. It’s simply gorgeous, beautiful, functional, screen accurate and probably every other positive adjective you could find to describe it. The amount of work that went into translating this piece from film and/or the actual props to a reduced scaled collectible is astounding. Many, many parts had to be individually designed and sculpted, and then be added to a systematic blueprint where they’ve been compiled and turned into a fully articulated and interactive display piece that likely couldn’t be more screen accurate. The details on the cannon portion of the heavy blaster are probably the most impressive aspects of this piece. The site has a red tint to it and the gradient texture of most of the portion of the barrel is breathtaking. It is articulated where it needs to be, like the folding stock legs and the swivel barrel of the blaster. And the ultra rubbery hose perfectly attaches to the underside of the blaster as well as the side of the power generator. All in all, the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster is a tremendous effort from Sideshow Collectibles. They clearly had some of the industry’s best designers involved to replicate such an important part of Episode V is beautiful sixth scale.

We do have minor criticisms to air about this piece however. The material used to cast the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster is just not high quality in our opinion. We would describe its properties as flimsy, brittle and fragile. You actually get nervous articulating the E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster in your hands, afraid that at any moment some piece is going to break off in your hands. These fears may be unwarranted however because they pieces do have some give and withstand pressure very well. But we wouldn’t recommended pressing those limits beyond the normal intended use of any parts that move. As far as accuracy, we don’t think you’ll find anything better ever. Sideshow Collectibles and their artists are neurotic about getting things right the first time, and that approach seems to get more intense as technology improves with time. The E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster offers a small portion of the Battle of Hoth sequence for your 1:6 Scale Figures collection. Aside from its fragility, we think that for all intents and purposes it’s nearly perfect. The only issue remaining? Well, we’re going to want many more pieces to help complete scenes from the film. This is great, but when is more coming? They should know we can never get enough of this stuff.
