Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) - POTJ - Basic

The stern but fair ruler of the underwater city Otoh Gunga, Boss Nass is the most powerful Gungan authority on the planet Naboo. He alone can summon the Gungan Grand Army to battle, which he does to aid the Naboo in their battle against the Trade Federation.

With all the secrecy that surrounded Episode I, Hasbro was at a disadvantage when making toys for thee film, without full and complete access to reference materials. As a result, not all of the characters produced for the Episode I basic figure line were completely accurate. One character that suffered this fate the most was Boss Nass. This somewhat grumpy, often surly Gungan whose bark was worse than his bite was a memorable character from The Phantom Menace. Not everyone fell in love with him or his antics. After all, he behaved like a more mature Jar Jar Binks really. But the Episode I version of Boss Nass was much to small for this burly and heavyset leader of the Otoh Gunga. Thankfully the tiny size of the Episode I figure weighed heavy on Hasbro and bothered them enough to make him one of the earliest figures for the Power Of The Jedi line. And let’s just say right away that the new figure is a pure joy. It is such a vast improvement over the original Episode I figure that it may never need to be revisited again. It’s literally one of the best figures in the entire Power Of The Jedi line. Labeled as Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place), we never thought we would be so impressed with a rehash of a figure we didn’t really care about the first time. It’s interesting how that works out, isn’t it? But once you see the comparison yourself, you’ll see why the Episode I figure is laughable now.

Hasbro mastered so much of Boss Nass’ character and forever sealed it in the expression on his face. We honestly don’t believe Hasbro could sculpt a better portrait than they did with this figure. Not only did they perfect the sculpt, they made it even better with precise paint operations that have completely brought his face to life. But it’s not just the face that has been flawlessly produced. The details of the sculpt of the action figure in general are mind blowing as well. Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) has a boxy and squared body type. He is large and bulky and has a commanding presence. It actually matches his deep and boisterous voice. Surprisingly, the original Episode I figure comes with more articulation than the new Power Of The Jedi version, but hopefully that won’t matter because this character doesn’t need a whole heck of a lot when it comes to articulation. What he comes with is sufficient enough for us and it should be for you too. He has been designed so that he can hold his hands above his head like he did at the end of the film. Sadly, he doesn’t come with the Globe of Peace that Padmé Amidala presented to him after the Battle of Naboo. Hey, at least he has been made to simulate he’s holding one.

While the Episode I Boss Nass action figure came with a staff, the Power Of The Jedi Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) figure comes with nothing at all, save for his commanding presence. He is much larger than most of the figures in the Power Of The Jedi line and he is perhaps one of the most colorful as well. We have focused on talking about his head sculpt, but we should also point out that Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) has incredibly ornate detail etched into his robe. The amount of paint operations that went into making this action figure impressive to say the least. Not only are their multiple base colors, there are plnety of accentuating details which give these flat surfaces perceived textures. Again, it’s quite an impressive feat of talent that Hasbro has employed to this action figure. Included with Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) is the Force File pack-in premium. We’re not too sure how we feel about these things. A lot of the content in them is definitely authentic information, but then there are a lot of extra things that Hasbro added as well, like who these characters are allies and enemies with, and their subsequent adventures. It seems a little silly at best. Still, Boss Nass (Gungan Sacred Place) remains a strong action figure regardless of what has been packed with him. He is an absolute must-have action figure as far as we’re concerned.
