Durge - CW [A] - Basic

Through the creative vision of Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Cartoon Network, the Clone Wars are brought to life in an exciting new series of short animated chapters. A unique animation style captures the drama of this epic period in galactic history along with its outstanding heroes and adversaries. Noble Jedi warriors lead Clone Troopers into battle against the evil Separatist forces and their droid armies. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and their comrades struggle against the rising power of the dark side and confront personal challenges against a backdrop of war-torn planets.

Was there anything more perfect than Genndy Tartakovsky’s flawless vision of the events that transpired during the Clone Wars? Unbelievably, some fans aren’t full sold on the micro-series, as they felt that the actions of the Jedi were much too exaggerated and the “one versus…. many" battle sequences they felt were contrived at best. Still, one can’t help look beyond the faults of a multimedia event like this. Were these battle symbolic of a greater thing perhaps? Were there morals to digest from the brief episodic shorts? Was there a bigger message to get across? As you can see, there is so much more to these chapters and it’s perhaps the main ingredient to why so many Star Wars fans latched onto the Clone Wars micro-series so strongly. The beautiful artwork and the great, yet simple, storytelling allowed is to gain a deeper understanding of the characters we knew all too well, as well as introducing us to mysterious characters for the first time, many of which will go on to become pivotal Star Wars anchors in the Expanded Universe. With a dynamic backing score and sound effects borrowed from the films, the Clone Wars is one of the strongest multimedia events the Star Wars timeline has ever embraced.

Durge was one of the earliest all-new villains introduced into the series. In a classically styled space version of knight jousting , Obi-Wan Kenobi faces Durge in a face to face combat. With Clone Troopers backing Obi-Wan and IG Lancer Droids supporting Durge, the two face off in an exhilarating game of chicken. Ultimately that challenge ends and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Durge are left to battle one on one in a deadly skirmish. In the end, Obi-Wan Kenobi defeats Durge, but not until Tartakovsky leaves the viewer with a cliffhanger when Durge’s biological material begins reforming once again. Sadly, Durge is never seen again in the micro-series. Obviously, Durge became one of the first figures in the realistically styled Clone Wars line (as 2003’s CW Durge (Commander Of The Separatist Forces) (’03 #46) figure) and one of the first in the Clone Wars [Animated] line up. We have a soft-spot for the animated figures. Because we adore the artwork of the micro-series, getting these same styled figures in a three-dimensional action figure is pure gravy. Originally released as a TARGET exclusive basic figure line, they were easy to come by and finding them at retail was no hard task.

The Durge action figure from the Clone Wars [Animated] line is about as simple an action figure that you can get. Limited to a mere four points of articulation, it’s important to note that the Clone Wars [Animated] line is all about the stylistic interpretation of these characters and not the actual action figure itself. These are three-dimensional renderings of the characters that appear in a two-dimensional show. And from that perspective the action figure of Durge is a roaring success. The Clone Wars [Animated] figures are weighty, especially Durge. When you pick him up it feels like you really have something of substance in your hands. He stands excellently and despite his minimal articulation, Hasbro designed him very thoroughly so that he could hold the included lance accessory in a variety of ways. See our photo gallery for just some examples. Included with every Clone Wars [Animated] figure is an action figure display stand. This wide display stand sports the Star Wars logo and then has “Clone Wars” below it in a smaller size. Of course, any animated styled action figure won’t have the same detail as a realistically styled action figure. But if you’re buying this line, it’s because you’re head over heels in love with the Clone Wars micro-series.
