Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter - SW [TPM 3D] - Vehicles

Anakin flies a modified Jedi starfighter that can separate into two independent vehicles. While Anakin pilots one of the ships, his trusty Astromech Droid can control the other ship to conduct reconnaissance or extended patrol. Both halves of the fighter are armed with weapons in case they encounter hostile forces.

It makes complete sense when Hasbro designs an excellent vehicle that the sculpt will either be reused to make a different vehicle or Hasbro will just simply repack it into the next new line look. That’s what they did with Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter. Originally released as 2009’s TCW [S2] Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter, the vehicle now gets a second chance at retail thank to the Star Wars [The Phantom Menace 3D] line look which is intended to support the very first 3D release of a Star Wars film in theaters ever. (It wasn’t a huge success.) The vehicle is worthy of reissue because it’s a fine toy. The vehicle is a novelty toy in some ways, but we love the ability it has to split into two separate vehicles for extra play value. And we also love the sleek design of it as well. This design started off originally in the 2008 The Clone Wars [Film/Season 1] line as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Delta Starfighter. And ever since that vehicle was released, the Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor will likely remain a staple in the toy line. While we don’t expect to get every last Jedi’s starfighter utilizing this sculpt, we do hope that Hasbro makes a few more before they retire the mold. It really is a fun vehicle. And it looks equally great too. The best part about this vehicle for us? It can hold a REAL astromech droid in the droid socket. Collectors no longer have to deal with stupid “half droid” hollow accessories. This is the way you make a Jedi starfighter Hasbro!

Not only is it a great looking vehicle, but it’s expertly painted and has just the right amount of play features too. Although this is an encore appearance in the Star Wars toy line, it still reeks of newness and it felt like we were playing with this vehicle for the first time…. again. We know that sounds strange, but sometimes great sculpts never get old. We honestly are happy that kids and collectors have another opportunity to get this vehicle as retail once again. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter is beautifully painted and decorated in yellow and gray. While it’s clearly intentional that the color pattern of Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter was meant to minic the color scheme of his starfighter in Episode III the yellow and gray color palette is very unique and the differently shaped vessel work hard to prove that this is something entirely new. As mentioned earlier briefly, the vehicle breaks apart into two separate “starfighters” and this is one of the best things about this vehicle. It really feels like you’re getting a lot more bang for your buck. And let’s be honest, it does. The fully functional droid socket with opening hatch perfectly fits many different astromech droids (but you’ll probably always resort to using R2-D2 (No. 8) or R3-S6 (Goldie) (No. 23) from The Clone Wars basic figure line). Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter also comes prepared with three projectiles and these fire with the flick of a button. What’s nice is that they don’t compromise the integrity of the vehicle from a collector’s perspective.

With the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Delta Starfighter and Ahsoka Tano’s Jedi Starfighter, the trio of main characters from The Clone Wars line each has his/her specific starfighter. You should treat yourself to at least one of these awesome Jedi starfighters for your collection. You’ll need to play with one to appreciate how cool it is. Plus, this is a second chance to grab it. It’s not often that we have many second chances to purchase cool toys. Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter has made a plethora of appearances The Clone Wars television show. It would be nice to see these types of vehicles get used in the future as well, no matter what type of Star Wars multimedia event it is. The cool thing about this class of starfighter is that Filoni has decided to keep the coloring faithful to what we see in the opening sequence of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith which again just helps to connect the dots between the Expanded Universe and the actual six non-animated films. And for those characters and/or vehicles that don’t appear in the Prequel Trilogy, Filoni has created believable color schemes as they might have appeared if they were there. Clearly bigger and better came as seen in Episode III. But that won’t keep us from appreciating them as toys in the Hasbro Star Wars line. It’s our own assessment that this class of Jedi starfighters (as toys) gives kids and collectors the greatest play options. The Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor is definitely one of the greatest vehicles Hasbro has produced to date. You should add one to your collection.
