Princess Leia - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

Her ship under attack from Darth Vader's Star Destroyer, Princess Leia downloads the secret Death Star plans into R2-D2 for safe-keeping. After being stunned by a stormtrooper blast, Leia became a prisoner of Darth Vader. R2-D2 avoids capture by fleeing with the valuable data in an escape pod.

Baby got back! But that’s because of the wonky use of soft-goods. The bulginess that is apparent on 2000’s The Power Of The Force "2" [FlashBack/CommTech] Princess Leia action figure is really just an illusion of soft-goods not lying closely the figure’s posterior. Why did we start off a review this way? Well, because her larger than normal derrière is definitely a feature that will likely capture your attention first. It seems that the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope versions of Princess Leia Organa just don’t come remotely close to capturing the likeness and spirit of the character. But perhaps Hasbro has come a big step closer to managing that with this figure. A big bonus with this release is that Hasbro has designed her with her hood up, a first for the basic figure line. So she won’t be able to serve as an update to the vintage Kenner figure, should you split hairs this specifically. Not as attractive as the 1998 POTF2 Freeze Frame figure, the 2000 POTF2 [FB/CT] Princess Leia figure will exceed some expectations, but not others. We would likely rank her as good, but needs tweaking. Others may just be happy to finally have a hooded Princess Leia that they’ll overlook her faults.

Princess Leia comes with six points of articulation. Of course this doesn’t seem like a great improvement over previous versions, especially since Hasbro has been adding incremental amounts of “bonus” articulation to the latest Star Wars action figures, but maybe Princess Leia isn’t in need of such enhancements. In this exact outfit, Princess Leia merely leans over to place the secret Death Star plans into R2-D2, and this action figure can execute this rather nicely. As a bonus to complete this series of frames from A New Hope, Hasbro has also given Princess Leia a sporting blaster which she used to take out a few of the Stormtroopers before she was stunned by their own blasters in return. This sculpt looks alright, but for some reason or another, Hasbro gave Princess Leia a broad and protuberant torso. She almost has a “gourd on stilts” type of silhouette about her that makes her seem off a bit. Plus, her lean and delicate arms just make her chest seem much too wide for this action figure. By now we must be making this action figure sound much worse than it is, but we cannot help but comment on why it strikes us as a bit disproportioned. Your opinions may vary.

We love the use of soft-goods in the 3.75” action figure line, so we’re especially thrilled to see Hasbro give her a soft-goods skirt (from her waist down to her feet). The tightness of the dress does constrict the full range of movement of the swivel hips, so you may find this a bit of a drawback. But even if Hasbro added a plastic-molded skirt with slits, we bet you’ll still won’t be able to use this articulation as meaningfully as you may desire. Part of the third wave of The Power Of The Force “2” CommTech line, Princess Leia was part of a hard to find assortment including just herself and Admiral Motti as the new figures. You have to keep in mind that this was the last wave of the POTF2 line and Hasbro has decided to keep runs smaller so that they don’t collect on shelves unnecessarily. As far as the paint operations are concerned, Princess Leia ranks just about average for us. Her likeness isn’t that attractive and her skin tone is a touch too orange in our estimation. She has the simplest definition for facial features, as she literally just has brown lines and dots for eyebrows, eyes and eyelashes. The Power Of The Force “2” line was a long-running line, and Princess Leia makes up part of the end to that trail.
