Aunt Beru (With Service Droid) - POTF2 [FB/CT] - Basic

A long time ago....
A new Star Wars movie will premier in movie theaters next Summer. It is Episode I of the Star Wars saga and the first movie in a new trilogy that goes back in time a full generation to tell the story of Luke Skywalker's father Anakin. We will see how Anakin became a great Jedi Knight but then turned to the dark side to become Darth Vader.

Beru Lars was the closest thing to a mother that Luke Skywalker ever knew. She and husband Owen lovingly raised Luke as their nephew, and trained him in the mundane ways of moisture farming on their arid Tatooine homestead. All along, Aunt Beru understood that a larger destiny awaited Luke. Years before, on another part of Tatooine, the slave Shmi Skywalker raised the boy who would become Luke's father – Anakin Skywalker. Like Aunt Beru, she sadly understood she could only love and nurture her boy for a relatively short period of time before she had to allow him the freedom to fly on his own wings.

When collectors cite certain aspects of Hasbro’s long-running Star Wars line, The Power Of The Force “2” [FlashBack/CommTech] era will be one of the high points. Never was there a time in the longevity of the basic figure line where Kenner/Hasbro focused so many basic figures directly from the very first Star Wars film. While there were obvious additions from The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, the FlashBack and CommTech figures were all about Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. And it goes without saying that collectors more than appreciated the gesture. Not only did Kenner/Hasbro update the main characters of Episode IV, they also peppered the line with characters that we couldn’t be more desperate for release. And we got them. A perfect example of this is Aunt Beru. How could so many years go by before collectors would be able to purchase their very first Aunt Beru action. It almost seems ungodly. Thankfully, Hasbro went all out to deliver unto collectors the beautiful Aunt Beru (With Service Droid) basic figure that not only was a huge value, the release gave us two for the price of one.

Many people feel that Aunt Beru’s wardrobe style was dated, but we feel a little bit differently about that. There is no denying the denim jacket or the large collared and patterned shirt underneath of it harkens back to the universal style of the time, but it stood out and helped establish Aunt Beru as the perfect matriarchal figure. The action figure brings all of these characteristics forward in 3.75” scale and then some. The action figure has a slightly awkward posture (her arms are a bit strange). But for the most part we think this looks very much like Aunt Beru from A New Hope, the attractive older woman with a rounded face and the kindest eyes of any character we have seen in a film to date. Kenner/Hasbro were able to recreate a fantastic likeness and used multiple colors of paint to bring her to life and we’re quite taken with the results. The oddly posed arms (really the hands are the awkward parts) and limited articulated oddly do not influence our affection towards this action figure. Hasbro did a great job first time out and we will be thankful and thrilled if they ever to decide to revisit her again and make her better. But as of this moment, this is a fine action figure.

Aunt Beru comes with a pitcher and drinking glass that have been cast in baby blue colored plastic. She can hold each accessory very nicely, but many collectors have chosen to let the Service Droid carry these “props” around instead. To each his own. Speaking of the Service Droid, perhaps collectors will be even more taken with this included WED-15-77 treadwell droid than maybe Aunt Beru. Maybe not. Simply called a “Service Droid” with Aunt Beru, the figure functions more like a fancy accessory than an actual action figure. But it is pretty large and what we would consider perfectly scaled next to Aunt Beru. And its paint job is simply stupendous. We don’t think anyone will be able to fault the paint operations on this figure, or the tooling for that matter. It can be broken down into two pieces and aside from being able to turn the stalk of the body, the Service Droid really has no proper articulation. The Service Droid can be seen in the film, but it had a bigger role in the deleted scenes of A New Hope and plenty of stills exist that prove this. Aunt Beru (With Service Droid) is a must-have figure as far as we’re concerned. You should make her a priority.
