If there was one figure that impressed the poodoo (intentionally misused because of what the English first and second syllables separately mean, not the Huttese translation although it applies) out of us in The Power Of The Force “2” line was Weequay Skiff Guard, a modern update to the classic 1983 Kenner vintage Weequay figure. Interestingly enough, Kenner/Hasbro followed the modern take of this character in almost the identical set of footprints that they did with the vintage figure. Sure, Weequay Skiff Guard has a much wide stance, but the facial sculpt, the way the arms are posed and even the coloring are ounce for ounce nearly identical. Technically has played a big part here in updating the classic figure into the modern framework, but you’d be hard-pressed not to admit that this figure reminds you exactly of the figure you grew up with a long time ago. Weequay Skiff Guard will certainly rise to the forefront as one of Hasbro’s greatest accomplishments. Yes, the articulation is still simple, but between the streamlined body and excellent sculpt, you won’t be feeling like something went wrong here. On top of everything else, Weequay Skiff Guard has a divine paint job which enhances the sculpt as much as it present the figure in a new screen accurate likeness. We are impressed beyond measure really. You’ll probably want a few them for your own collection.

Weequay Skiff Guard comes with six points of articulation. These include a swivel head, two swivel shoulders, a swivel waist and two swivel hips. The points give the figure adequate movement, but forget about posing him dynamically. It just won’t be possible. Thankfully, Kenner/Hasbro has imitated this figure’s pose like the vintage Kenner figure, so when he is holding the force pike he couldn’t look cooler. The only issue here is that this is really the only pose he can achieve that looks natural. For extra play value, Hasbro included a bronze colored E-11 blaster (which matches the force pike beautifully by the way). However, when you place it in his hand Weequay Skiff Guard cannot hold it in a natural position. It’s kind of like this accessory has been included here in an “all for naught” fashion. It does however give kids more options to play with this figure, but we bet all collectors will be utilizing the included force pike when posing this figure on the shelf. And Weequay Skiff Guard looks amazingly awesome when he is holding it. Clearly well accessorized, there is really only one weapon needed with this figure. The extra E-11 blaster is just simply unnecessary. We admit that Weequay Skiff Guard looks fantastic while holding the force pike, but let’s be honest. This is the only way this figure can be posed in your collection. You really have no other options than this one (which is probably fine for most collectors anyway).

We’d like to focus on the figure’s paint operations a little greater. The Weequay species really only possess one emotion on the face really. Kenner/Hasbro has done a fantastic job of capturing the rubber mask of the character in the film beautifully. If this is not one of the best facial likenesses you have ever seen, we would be shocked you feel differently. What’s more, for the first time Kenner/Hasbro has added beads and colorful strands into the hair for incredible screen accuracy. These native American lookalike characters have been enhanced in ways that will impress you. Even the crevices in the face have a darker wash to help accent the contour of each wrinkle and crevice. It really just gets better and better from there. The shirt has been upgraded from aqua to light blue and copper detailing has been added to highlight the metal parts of the outfit and armor. The pants and boots are pretty much identical to vintage Kenner figure, but this time around we get a collection of dust, dirt and sand right around the knee areas to show that this is a worker of Jabba who is out in the field, literally. Weequay Skiff Guard is a tremendous upgrade from the 1983 ROTJ Weequay Kenner figure. That doesn’t mean we think it is better or replaces anything vintage because that’s impossible. But you should definitely give Weequay Skiff Guard a second glance or more. It is absolutely one of the highlights in The Power Of The Force “2” line. (Oh, and the Freeze Frame version is the rarest modern Star Wars figure to date too!)
