Clad in distinctive metallic armor, Captain Phasma commands the First Order's legions of troopers.
If you’ve collected the Star Wars action figure line as long as we have, you’ve undoubtedly felt at some point (especially now perhaps) that you’ve been left out in the cold as far as The Force Awakens product launch was concerned. Sure, The Black Series [Phase III] 3.75” basic figure line (which has been designed for us) has been converted into a specially packaged Walmart exclusive much to the chagrin of the collecting community. But the first wave of figures for that line are an utter disappointment. (Disclaimer: the line promises to get better and better with time, but please don’t expect a line with the same magnitude as previous and true basic figures lines of ages past.) To make matter worse, the only other 3.75” action figures you can buy aside from the Walmart exclusives have a maximum of five points of articulation, with a few of the characters in the line with even less. Many collectors have drawn the line. And if action figures aren’t super-articulated, that’s a line they just won’t cross. Hasbro has created The Black Series 6” to essentially fill the void of 3.75” super-articulated figures, but it has taken a while for the longtime collectors to warm up to it.
But given a chance, collectors should start seeing how far Hasbro has come with The Black Series 6” line. With The Force Awakens launch, Hasbro entered the third phase of the line with a new and exciting line look and a host of characters that we officially no nothing about (for the most part). September 2015 saw the release of two solid waves of figures, and with the second wave appearing even stronger than the first wave, it seems that The Black Series [Phase III] is heading in the right direction and will continue to win over many Star Wars fans that thought they could never find a place in their collections for a different scale of figures. The instantly popular Captain Phasma makes up part of wave 2 of The Black Series [Phase III] line and aside from one major issue (there is no chrome vac-metallization), Captain Phasma is essentially flawless. Super tall with a thicker than normal stature, Captain Phasma is significantly taller than the standard First Order Stormtrooper released in wave 1. Known to be played by a tall female actress and assumed that her character is also female, Captain Phasma may be one of the most unexpected and exciting characters in a long time.
Captain Phasma comes with an amazing 28 points of articulation across 17 areas of articulation. She has an amazing range of motion and for the most part can attain any pose you desire. Although not chrome, Hasbro did a fair job at recreating her unique chromed armor, although we still don’t understand why they’re unable to give action figures vac-metallization in 2015 when it was no issue or consequence from 1978 through 2009. Whatever. Captain Phasma still looks great regardless. What we’re more concerned about is her plastic molded cape. We feel very strongly that The Black Series 6” line needs to be collector-focused and a way to ensure this is to include mixed media.... like soft-goods for example. While it looks beautiful in a standard pose, the molded cape will inhibit how you can pose the figure with it. Sure, when you remove it there is no issue at all, but had it been designed from soft-goods, collectors would have had limitless options, as they should have in this range. Captain Phasma also comes with a First Order blaster which honestly doesn’t look all that different from a blaster that the clones utilized. There is a slot on the figure’s right thigh which allows you to rest the gun there when not in use. Overall, Captain Phasma is beautiful. She isn’t perfect, but to say that she isn’t excellent would be a terrible mistake.
Status: Captain Phasma is an all-new figure.
