A wise and powerful Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn discovers young Anakin Skywalker, proving to be a pivotal event to the future of the Jedi and to the entire galaxy for generations to come.

Admit it. Keeping main characters in the line is a necessity for a toy maker. But how do you keep that fresh and exciting when the character looks about the same in every last scene in the film? This especially affects multiple characters in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace because of the addition of Jedi and Sith characters, they don’t change appearance all that often. The new lead Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn also experiences very few wardrobe changes in the film. To keep him current in the Episode I line, Hasbro created action figures of him based on what planet he was on at the time. This time they tooled Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) which really mean this is how he looks for the first act of the film. Whether confronting the Trade Federation on their space vessel or tripping over Jar Jar Binks in Naboo’s forest, this version of Qui-Gon Jinn comes with the dark outer robes and few other surprises to help keep this character interesting as a toy.

Like many other POTF2 figures, Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) comes with a removable robe shell. Sadly, when you remove it from the action figure he is left with brown arms and a tan core. It just is an odd site to behold. Surprisingly, Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) comes with an accessory and feature that is a rarity in the current Star Wars line. Hasbro tooled a hole in his belt to interact with a lightsaber hilt accessory (with a built in plug), You can attach it to his belt just like in the film. What’s more, Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) also comes with a fully lit lightsaber as well to give you various posing options and versatility. The hilt and lightsaber look pretty good. If we had any complaints we’d suggest they looked a little too thickly in girth. But they look wonderful with the action figure and we’re pleased that Hasbro included multiple options for us here. Three accessories is a generous gesture from Hasbro. We hope they keep this up in the future. The more accessories, the better.

Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) has a fantastic likeness. The head sculpt looks just like actor Liam Neeson. In our opinion, the action figure isn’t tall or broad enough. Liam Neeson is a large man and should tower over Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul, but he seems more in line with their hide than a standout. In addition to a fantastic sculpt and fun accessories, Hasbro also gave Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) some enhanced articulation. In addition to the standard six points that almost all modern action figure have, Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) comes with a swivel left elbow and a swivel right wrist. This makes posing him with either lightsaber accessory a pure joy. Hasbro should consider doing this more often. Also included with Qui-Gon Jinn (Naboo) is a CommTech chip which allows him to spout off about five phrases from the film. But as voice actors performed these lines and not the actual stars from Episode I, some collectors may just not care at all. This is a great likeness of the onscreen character. We recommend this one!
