Rey is a resilient survivor, a scavenger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with the cutthroats of the harsh desert world of Jakku.

Meh. You have to wonder when you see releases like 2016’s TBS [P3] Rey (Starkiller Base) if Hasbro is just about as burned out with the Star Wars toy line as the collectors are. This Kmart exclusive figure probably would have been better received had it been released at the same time of 2015’s TBS [P3] Kylo Ren (Starkiller Base) Kmart exclusive, but the “hush-hush” lightsaber accessory prevented the Rey one from being release until after the movie was released. Nothing new is brought to the table. Some collectors are going to huff and puff about buying the same figure from 2015’s TBS [P3] Rey (Jakku) & BB-8 set with new paint operations specific to Starkiller Base. But in all honesty, the environmental pieces included here (two snowy and icy bases) really bring an aura of the environment she battled Kylo Ren in and when fully put together makes for a very beautiful set. Still, when we look at the Rey (Starkiller Base) figure itself, we have to wonder if and when Hasbro is going to get the paint operations mastered without so much volatility and fluctuation in these applications from one release to the next This rollercoaster ride we’re on watching these paint operations is disheartening. And for us, Rey (Starkiller Base) has terrible paint operations in the face once again. Thankfully there are distractions here to hopefully turn your attention elsewhere with her. The display bases are beautiful, but they’re not too reminiscent of Starkiller Base from The Force Awakens. Maybe that doesn’t matter, because we have a hard time criticizing them. We think they look great.

This time she doesn’t come with her staff. But she does come with Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber hilt (and subsequent lightsaber blade) which was the big spoiler for The Force Awakens. We would have liked to see Hasbro give her a blaster pistol, but that was ignored for this release too. The paint operations are definitely different than the original release. She has an overall lighter appearance, but the biggest difference is that Hasbro added some “snow”" accumulations” to her boots so that she blends in well with the included snow bases that accompany her in this Kmart exclusive. Hasbro has copied the character’s likeness well into this 6” figure and they’ve developed a truly great figure here. It’s just her paint operations take away from the sculpt. It could be a stunning figure if they could lock down the deco. Rey (Starkiller Base) is proportionately scaled to the rest of the figures in the line so far. Again, her sculpt is phenomenal. Despite many of our criticisms, it still remains true that this figure looks much better in person than from any camera lens. Don’t let a bad photo gallery (or any photo gallery for that matter) jade you into thinking this figure isn’t all that she is. But we won’t ignore the fact that she could be better. Aside from slightly too pale skin and a few instances of sloppy paint operations, collectors will be happy to add Rey (Starkiller Base) into their collections. It’s important for many to have a Rey action figure with a lightsaber accessory. You get that here.

With the incredible articulation that the 6” line brings, Rey (Starkiller Base) can attain pretty much any pose you desire. Her dress does inhibit complete movement, but overall we are pleased with how well she is able to be posed. The included base which included places for her feet to go really aid in her attaining some remarkable action poses. The two Starkiller Base environmental display bases interlock to create a nice lock diorama for the figure. It really looks remarkable and it’s a major reason why we bough this set. We don’t nearly get enough playsets or environments to complement our action figures. So when Hasbro makes the effort, we’ll make the effort of buying it. No regrets or buyer’s remorse will be found here form that perspective. The most rewarding benefit to the Rey (Starkiller Base) action figure is that she interacts beautifully with the Kylo Ren (Starkiller Base) Kmart exclusive released in 2015. Although months apart from each other in release date, Kylo’s base interacts with a part of Rey’s base and an even bigger environment is created for the two of them to duel and battle. You can actually display them perfectly fighting against one another and the realism is just pretty incredible. Again, these figures aren’t issue free. Both Kylo Ren and Rey should have been given new and/or revised head sculpts to make them look a little more screen accurate. With Kmarts going out of business all over the USA, we imagine that exclusives ill be harder and harder to come by. We suggest if you want this to make an effort to grab one as soon as you can.
