Droid Factory is all the rage at Disney Parks now! After a groundbreaking and successful theme park souvenir attraction, the Disney Parks 2012 Collection of Droid Factory astromech droids, Disney has realized the attraction Star Wars fans have to these unforgettable droids as well as a source of great revenue. So they decided to take it to the next level. Reaching out to Hasbro, Disney wanted to produce Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter, along with two pack-in figure: Jedi Mickey and R2-MK. Those two figures were previously released as a set in the past, but now R2-MK would be approached utilizing the R2-Series Astromech Build A Droid sculpt. It’s a tremendous update to the previous version, and now we have more droid parts to interact with the ones we already have. Yes, the Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter set is gimmicky as it is silly and likely won’t appeal to many, but the R2-MK figure is almost worth the purchase alone. Between the beautiful paint operations and the interactivity with all of the other Build A Droid figures we have, we can’t think of a wiser way to spend money on a STAR TOURS item such as this. We had no interest either at first, now we’re thrilled about our purchase.

Jedi Mickey's Starfighter is pretty nice. It’s based on 2005’s ROTS Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter which has already impressed the collecting community with its design and features. This time the vehicle has been colored in gray, red, yellow and white with Mickey Mouse symbols on the wings to designate it as his. The bright red cockpit seat has also been retooled a bit and includes a plug now so you can attach Jedi Mickey to the interior of it. Although he cannot sit like a standard pilot would, you can close the canopy and it looks like Jedi Mickey is actually flying the vehicle. We were impressed with how believable this looks. We imagine that you’ll be impressed as well. Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter comes with all of the same features of the original release too. A lever activate the opening wings, the landing gear folds out when the vehicle is not in flight, and you get two projectiles to fire against the enemies of Jedi Mickey and his entourage. There is of course a great deal of play value here. And it’s nice to know that the toys that offer the play value are made with such incredible quality. There are really no disappointments here for us at all. This release is both visually stunning and made with quality materials.

The included Jedi Mickey is based on the same sculpt we have seen since 2005. But this time he gets a completely different paint job and new lightsaber accessory. He has very limited posing options, but he does look pretty awesome wielding his lightsaber. The paint operations aren’t perfect, but look great in our opinion. But for us the star of the show here is R2-MK. Forget about the Mickey Mouse ears cap which sports its name for a minute. This is one beautiful astromech droid. The paint operations are simply stunning on R2-MK. It comes with a metallic red dome, a white body ornamented with black outlined panels, and then you’ll find additional details in red and yellow to help give the droid some enhancements. And as you know, the figure breaks down into dome, body, legs and accessory which can be used alongside any of the Build A Droid parts you have already in your collection. For just shy of $35, you do get quite a few items which makes the cost very palatable. Even if you’re not crazy about Disney characters, this Jedi starfighter vehicle can be used as a generic Jedi starfighter. You’ll just have to “erase” the three Mickey symbols and you’ll be all set.
