After making its debut at the Battle of Geonosis, the Republic's V-19 Torrent assault fighter is used with effectiveness at the Battle of Muunilinst. Anakin Skywalker commands the space battle above the planet, leading clone-piloted V-19 Torrents against the Confederacy's droid fighters.
Introduced to us in Tartakovsky’s very first chapter of the first animated Clone Wars series, the V-19 Torrent Starfighter is a vehicle that fans and collectors didn’t forget about. And neither did Lucasfilm. Making a much bigger splash in Filoni’s The Clone Wars television series, the vehicle was finally released in the mid-size vehicle line to the pleasure of most collectors. An all-new vehicle, the V-19 Torrent Starfighter looks a little clean but it has a very lean and sleek design and can be posed in a variety of ways. Utilized by clone troopers, the V-19 was an assault vehicle that was known for its incredible speed and agility. It fought many battles in the Clone Wars and quickly became a staple amongst the many fleets. The vehicle has a unique design via its two pairs of folding airfoils. This aided the vehicle in quick take-offs and simple landings. The vehicle came loaded with blaster cannons as well as two concussion missile launchers. And Hasbro did a great job to add all of these traits into the toy.
The Hasbro interpretation of this vehicle is quite successful. And they fit quite a bit into the $19.99 price point. The only complaint we have is that it looks utterly too clean for our liking. This is age-old whining for us as you probably are well aware of by now, but we still think the ships would do much better if they got nicer finishing touches. The only decoration you are really going to finds on this vehicle is some red square and Republic logos. (And this is bit of shame if you ask us.) Although there is significant movement in the wings, the joints are tight and they will hold their angle and shape well. If you outstretch the wings, the vehicle is extremely thin. It looks pretty cool to say the least. In the center of the vehicle you will find the cockpit. It too is rather streamlined and houses your clone trooper of choice. Hasbro ensured that pretty much any clone trooper from The Clone Wars line will fit inside without a fight and we can confirm this. Quickly becoming one of our favorite new vehicles (but this probably has a lot to do with our love for the Tartakovsky series), the V-19 Torrent Starfighter is a vehicle we would have loved to see in the films.
The mid-size vehicle assortment from Hasbro is certainly giving us a lot of goodies. The line is giving us multiple never-before-released vehicles and all have different coolness factors. But the point is that they are all great vehicles. While JTA tends to be fans of product based on the films, it is nice to get new vehicles any way possible at least. This little vehicle has been quite popular and continually sells through despite its constant inclusion in wave assortments. We aren’t surprised because it is the perfect companion for some of your clone troopers. While not loaded with features of a much larger scaled vehicle, it still has the basics: opening cockpit canopy, rotating airfoils (center and side), retractable landing gear and firing blaster cannons. All of these extra bells and whistles make the purchase that much more exciting. But probably the most important thing to make clear is that the V-19 Torrent Starfighter is already awesome despite these.
