Jabba the Hutt planned to throw Han Solo to the Sarlacc in the Great Pit of Carkoon. But Princess Leia killed Jabba by choking him with the chains holding her prisoner, then rigged the Sail Barge's laser cannon to fire into the ship, destroying it and the crime lord in a huge blast!
Is any basic figure collection complete without Princess Leia in her slave outfit? She is definitely one of many quintessentially important characters from the Original Trilogy, but everyone seems to want to make her a main part of his/her collection. Princess Leia Organa was a character that was produced in many different outfits in the Power Of The Jedi line, but Princess Leia (in her Jabba’s prisoner/slave outfit) literally got the deluxe treatment in the updated and newly approached Deluxe line. Again, although we received quite a few all-new versions of Princess Leia in the Power Of The Jedi lineup so far, this one may become an instant fan favorite. It’s that good. The Power Of The Jedi Princess Leia (With Sail Barge Cannon) Deluxe set is really something to behold. The set brings us a perfectly scaled Princess Leia figure (the 1997 POTF2 [FF/TKC] Princess Leia Organa (As Jabba's Prisoner) figure dwarfs it dramatically) and it had a wonderful likeness and cool accessories (as well as a real metal chain)! She comes with limited articulation sadly, but we bet that very few will mind because her pose, proportions, sculpt and aesthetics are relatively flawless.
While it goes without saying that any Princess Leia action figure in a slave outfit should have the option of a sitting pose, this figure just won’t allow for that. It would have been nice to have that option here. But we do get a soft-goods skirt on her fro the very first time and admittedly it has a beautiful drape. Princess Leia may not be perfect, but between the seamless addition of soft-goods, the real metal chain and a “real” synthetic hair ponytail, we now all have an amazingly well developed action figure that won't age quickly for collectors. With daintily thin extremities, Princess Leia has that femininity she deserves built in beautifully into this figure. And she has been built to scale with the rest of the figures in the lineup. She won’t look out of place next to Chewbacca, Darth Vader or even Jabba The Hutt himself. Princess Leia also comes with a force pike. It seemingly has a nice sculpt, but it fails in a major way. Unfortunately it has been cast from one of the flimsiest plastics we have yet to encounter in the basic figure lineup to date. It’s quite maddening how it’s unable to maintain its shape. And over time it just wants to bow.
But a great pack-in figure isn’t all that we should write about here. Let's talk about the Sail Barge Cannon. It's really a work of art. This large accessory has so much detail it’s nearly overwhelming. A perfect replica of the prop we saw in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi, the Sail Barge Cannon has been given exquisite tooling and a paint job to rank this item a home run hit. It even features some articulation including a pivoting cannon and pivoting foot-board. You can break the cannon down into multiple parts as well. There is a removable controller, the aforementioned foot-board is removable. And there are two “decorative” knobs that are removable from the Sail Barge Cannon as well. These are odd pieces and we’re not sure why Hasbro made them removable. Then there are two projectiles that fire from two parallel cannons when you press a launcher button on top of the cannon. There are also two foot pegs on the foot-board so you can pose Princess Leia on it very easily. All collectors need now is a sail barge and it would probably render fans of Return Of The Jedi speechless. We know it has thrilled us very much. So it should you.
