Aided by his droid companion R4-P17, Obi-Wan flies an Eta-2 Jedi starfighter on a mission to rescue Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. His acute Jedi instincts help him battle overwhelming odds as he battles his way past Separatist forces and buzz droids that threaten to destroy his ship.

When it came to making the definitive Revenge Of The Sith version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hasbro certainly saved the best for last. After all of the action-feature ridden figures released throughout 2005, Hasbro released 2005’s ROTS Obi-Wan Kenobi (III 55) figure and it quickly became one of the most favorite versions of this character for collectors. Long-awaited and much needed, collectors had something for their collection they could be proud of because Hasbro really treated this iteration of him with incredible respect. Generously equipped with 23 points of articulation, Obi-Wan Kenobi has all of the movement finicky collectors demand. A ball-socket head, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, torso, knees and ankles is accompanied with swivel wrists and hips. This assortment of movement gives Obi-Wan Kenobi every possibility pose you’d want to achieve and it should prove to you just how astute the right sculptor can be when tasked with developing the right kind of figure with their God given talents. This will remain a definitive figure in the line for years to come and it is already proving to be one of Hasbro’s most favorites as well. Tweaked a few times, it is now part of Hasbro’s 2007 30 (77-07) Saga Legends line. As a figure that can attain pretty much any pose (aggressive or standard) you desire, fits inside the cockpit of a Jedi starfighter, and outfitted with a nice amount of accessories, there is very little to complain about with this excellent figure. Maybe you’re not crazy about the repackaging of already released action figures, but this one is a perfect example of why it is so necessary to keep these figures in the line as often as possible.

Sadly, Obi-Wan Kenobi comes with the borderline awkward molded outer robe that came with the Revenge Of The Sith line version of the figure. It’s definitely way off as far as its color is concerned, but it hugs his body rather closely and ultimately fits nicely. Obviously it becomes problematic when it comes to placing him in a Jedi starfighter for accuracy reasons. Well, it’s actually impossible. In Episode III, Obi-Wan Kenobi for the most part that we saw always flew around space wearing his outer Jedi robes, so soft-goods would have been the better option here. They did however use the approach made with the way the head sculpt was painted on 2006’s TSC Obi-Wan Kenobi (SAGA 028) figure which includes gray temples. We appreciate this attention to detail because it shows an aged Obi-Wan Kenobi and is more importantly screen accurate. You’ll also find that you’ll have a lot more fun with this figure if you just stow away that plastic robe in a storage box.... very far away from the figure. Obi-Wan Kenobi also comes with a head set that looks a little too simply made. It has no paint details and much too thick in spots. We don’t criticize Hasbro for its slightly odd shape because it’s really not that big of a deal. It’s a small prop in the film, but we have seen Hasbro make some tiny accessories before in the basic figure line. We think they could have done somewhat better with regards to its aesthetics. But more importantly, it’s really nice to get so many accessories with basic figures. Lack of accessories with action figures is problematic. Sometimes we don’t get enough, but it appears when Hasbro is really proud of a figure, they go all out with that figure’s accessories. We have noticed a pattern as of late.

The 2007 30 (77-07) Saga Legends lineup has given Star Wars collectors a plethora of figures to choose from which includes a vast array of species, affiliations, shapes and sizes. This is a fantastic way to army build troops and give those that don’t have these figures a chance to buy them at retail. And in all honesty, definitive characters like this are more than worthy of re-release. Sometimes all hardcore Star Wars collectors want to see is new figures, but definitive human characters like Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi are necessary time and again. This formerly long-awaited update to Obi-Wan Kenobi fits this need perfectly. Saga Legends is a perfectly way for the basic figure line to fill in the gaps of major important characters that should be ever present in a basic figure line. Besides the items we have already mentioned, there are still additional things that make this figure so enjoyable. We think the likeness on his portrait is just really nice. Obi-Wan Kenobi figures for the most part tend to look good, but this is a fine example of just how exacting sculptors can be when making these small masterpieces for us. Obi-Wan Kenobi is definitely one of these said masterpieces and it’s cool to see him available again in the basic figure line. Hasbro knows what collectors want and they are making that a reality with all of the great action figures they’ve released, reminding us with the Saga Legends line. Times are definitely changing for the better and it seems that it will only get better for action figure enthusiasts like you and us. Be sure to enjoy this Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. He’s only the beginning of a great chain reaction of landmark repacks to remind us what Hasbro is capable of doing so well.
