A reprogrammed Imperial security droid now loyal to the Alliance, K-2SO is an alarming sight standing within a secret Rebel base. The pragmatic droid is an effective insertion agent, as he can blend in perfectly at Imperial installations and outposts.

K-2SO is probably the perfect example of a The Black Series 6” that could serve as a case in point to why the line has relevance. Let’s face it. There are just some details that cannot be captured in a 3.75” action figure. Now, we’re not saying that Hasbro has the inability to come pretty darn close in this scale, but when size isn’t an issue and they have more room to work in their creativity a little more easily, great things happen such as the final K-2SO action figure. K-2SO enters The Black Series [Phase III] line with a grand stature, complex articulation system and detail that is nearly unprecedented in any Star Wars action figure line. Not only did Hasbro manage to tool a perfect replica of the onscreen character, they added finishing details that are competitively comparable to what we received in the peak of their super-articulated 3.75” action figure line. Go ahead. Inspect The Black Series [Phase III] 6” K-2SO action figure from head to toe. Look at all of the fine details. Then look how Hasbro brought them out thanks to a stunning final wash.

But the final wash isn’t the only impressive aspect here. Check out the fine lines of color that beautifully frame K-2SO’s controls, buttons and gears. Look at how “insignia” are cleverly placed and how they add character without overshadowing the integrity of the sculpt. Look at how the joints bend and allow the droid to be set in a variety of poses. These and more are all things that we should expect from all of the action figures Hasbro produces for us. We’re just thrilled that it actually happened. We’re particularly fond of how they attached this droid’s head too. They’ve crafted an inverted ball-socket joint for the neck and then a normal ball-socket joint for the head. But the range of movement you get from this “double” ball-socket articulation is pretty amazing. Because of the droid’s natural design, hinge-jointed and swivel articulation needed to be worked in many of the droid’s areas, but they’re all aesthetically accurate anyhow. So, we have no complaints to give there either.

Early solicitation images showed that a blaster was going to be packed in with the figure. But the final figure does not come with a blaster. This brings us to another point. Why couldn’t Hasbro just have added the blaster into this figure’s box for good measure. Why can’t we use it as a back-up weapons when one of the character’s who does come with loses his or hers? Sure, K-2SO is gigantic and towers over most of the other action figures in The Black Series 6” line. But size matters not. And it’s more important to get extra accessories with these very expensive figures. We believe that Hasbro is getting this message loudly and clearly from zealous collectors of this line. Let’s hope that they improve in this area because when compared to other licenses in this scale, the Star Wars line REALLY pales in comparison. Simply put, K-2SO is a beautiful 6” action figure. It’s quickly become one of our favorite characters based on Rogue One so far. We just hope he is a droid that isn’t full of antics. We need a serious droid for once.
