Cody leads the 212th Attack Battalion and serves under Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars. He is one of the clone commanders who received advanced training under ARC trooper Alpha. Cody accompanies Obi-Wan to the Teth system to provide military reinforcements when Anakin's team comes under attack by battle droids.
Clone Commander Cody is a clone trooper officer with a brief but very potent and powerful history in the Star Wars universe. First appearing in the Labyrinth Of Evil novel, he is probably however best known for his first "visual" appearance in the second season of Tartakovsky's visionary Clone Wars animated series. Cody became immediately popular and his appearance in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith only solidified his status as one of the most intriguing and likeable clones that we have ever been introduced. Having a very tight relationship with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, his adventures with Kenobi have been vast and numerous and they have become favorite stories amongst casual and avid fans. It obviously made sense that he would make a return appearance in the Dave Filoni The Clone Wars series. He has had main character status ever since (and deservedly so). He has been integral in many story arcs and remained a strong victor throughout the various battles witnessed in the television series. You can imagine that due to the popularity of his two dimensional visage, he was destined to be even more popular as an action figure. And Clone Commander Cody has been flying off of the shelves ever since, despite him constantly shipping and reshipping in remix cases. He is a great action figure, so it's nice to know that he is worth his weight in plastic and his character has translated very well into toy form. The many clone troopers and clone commanders in The Clone Wars have many unique traits that set them apart from each other and Clone Commander Cody is certainly no different. Now he has been wisely re-released in The Clone Wars [Red] line look to get the extra exposure he deserves.
Although nearly identical to the original release, we have noticed minor paint variations here and there on this second basic figure release. The Clone Wars version of Clone Commander Cody is in the typical animated style we have come to grow quite fond of and not too much should surprise you. His armor, although in phase I style, is not that much different looking from what was scene in Episode III. He is immediately recognizable as Commander Cody and this is pretty cool. As neat as Commander Gree looks (from The Clone Wars line), he is not too recognizable from his Episode III appearance. Not a criticism, but we as fans tend to feel coddled by familiarity and it allows us to like new interpretations of our favorite characters even better. To this effect, Cody has the same orange chest pattern and shoulder antenna that are his trademark characteristics. And even his orange stripe on his leg has been brought over to the animated line. And these same patterns were seen in his animated form from 2005 so this is not the first animated version of Clone Commander Cody we have received. Fans of the Tartakovsky Clone Wars micro-series will remember the 2005 CW Clone Commander Cody/Obi-Wan Kenobi/General Grievous Clone Wars Commemorative DVD Collection (Animated Pack 2) multipack. It is a sought after set and the similarities (as far as paint detail is concerned) both versions share are quite uncanny. Perhaps since Cody had been established in animated form, Filoni wanted to keep his look faithful. Consistency is certainly something that transcends the way a character looks, but also how a character is made into an action figure. And ever since Hasbro developed their animated clone trooper "template," this consistency will remain in effect for the basic line.
Based off of 2008's TCW [B] Clone Trooper (No. 5) figure in The Clone Wars [Blue] line, Clone Commander Cody is super-articulated with plenty of premium articulation. New to this figure is his left arm, head and removable helmet. Clone Commander Cody is very clean and the only battle damage is on his face which is represented by a nasty scar going down his face. To be in canon, this would mean that the live action Episode III version of Cody would also have this scar, but we don't remember seeing one this drastic on Temura Morrison. (This doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but we don't recall it being so obvious.) However, it looks great on this action figure and is a nice touch. It helps to write a story about Cody's intense leadership skills and the casualties of war. He has lots of orange color flashes on his armor and they look great. His body design lends him to look a little bit repetitious, but he is still an excellent action figure despite this. One of the best parts of this action figure is his removable helmet and it looks especially awesome from side view. Hasbro spent a little time decorating it and it has been created very faithful to what we see in the television series. Only lacking a dirty final wash, it is an excellent and required accessory for Clone Commander Cody. He also comes loaded with additional accessories including a missile launcher, missile, missile with attached cable, DC-15 blaster rifle, and DC-15 rifle. Clone Commander Cody will give the quality, versatility and excellence that you have come to expect out of Hasbro. After all, Cody has proven himself and will undoubtedly be a longstanding and extremely popular character. Do yourself a favor and ensure you have this action figure in your collection.
