After a record year with the Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro began repackaging some of the most popular vehicles from Episode III and added them into both follow-up lines including The Saga Collection and 30 (77-07). With just a little inadvertent tweaking here and there (from vehicles being produced at two different times in history and not because of deliberate changes requested), Hasbro re-releases key vehicles like Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter and Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Starfighter into the TAC assortment in an effort to celebrate 30 years of Star Wars. In beautiful all-new packaging, the vehicles in this assortment have never looked better. Hasbro needs to repackage previously existing tools to help keep costs down and allow new products to keep on coming. This is the perfect way to do it. This big anniversary of Star Wars will hopefully create new interest and bring in more collectors too. Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter was a great vehicle in 2005. It’s a great vehicle now. And while it doesn’t necessarily bring newness to the midsize vehicle assortment, we think it’s wise to see it again and keep that momentum going for Episode III.
Sourced from Revenge Of The Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter is a picture perfect definition of what a midsize vehicle is. Because Obi-Wan Kenobi is a mainstay in any basic figure line, Hasbro has always made sure that at least one of his starfighters is always present in the line too. Although it has some very minor deco differences, the vehicle itself is really more of the same you likely expected. Coming with the same features, decal sheet and play value, Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter release is meant to introduce new fans to the line, as well as give longtime collectors another stab at it, especially for those who are into the awesome new 30th anniversary packaging. We’d like to remind you that the packaging looks absolutely fantastic. The art department at Hasbro truly deserve accolades for the extremely impressive effort put forth in these vehicles’ packaging which has subdued details of the vintage Kenner line looks, but with a new and fresh modern framework around the tributary elements. Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter is a win for those who have been collecting for years, as well as those who are new to the hobby.
For those of you that do open your vehicles, you might be happy to know that this version of Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter is a slight repaint of both 2005’s ROTS Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter and 2006’s TSC Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter. The differences aren’t significant, but you should at least know that differences do exist. This is true when it comes to the battle-damage markings and carbon-scoring you find throughout the vehicle. If you’re not really into what this vehicle offers we understand that as well. We’re still waiting for Hasbro revise some of the features on Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter ourselves, especially the droid socket. But in all honesty we have to say that 2005’s ROTS R4-P17 (III 64) interacts wonderfully with it. Sure, the action figure doesn’t sit in the droid socket all that well, but at least the dummy astromech that comes with the vehicle is removable and can be placed on the side while you utilize R4-P17 instead. Overall, Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter still has merit and is worthy of another re-release in the Hasbro toy line. If you have it already however, then this version can be passed over with no regrets.
