“Always a pleasure to meet a Jedi.”
Wow. Has it really taken Sideshow Collectibles over a decade to bring Jango Fett into the Premium Format Figures line? If we look back, it appears as if Jango Fett was always on the back burner for Sideshow Collectibles. Effectively, this character was the last produced in so many of their scales. The Jango Fett Life-Size Bust was the “final” piece in the collection before it went on sabbatical (it has since been revitalized). Also, the Jango Fett 1:6 Scale Figure wasn’t released until right before Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hit theaters. Now here we are. After more than a decade and more than 40 Premium Format Figures released, we finally have Jango Fett in this one-quarter scale. We’re quite fond of the Jango Fett character. In fact, for us he is significantly cooler than Boba Fett in a few different ways. (Don’t worry, we still prefer Boba Fett by a landslide overall.) The Jango Fett Premium Format Figure is astounding. It is based on the events that occurred when he was confronted by Obi-Wan Kenobi and a skirmish ensued between them. The display base is a work of art and looks to be based on some section of the landing platform that is visible on the rain-soaked planet of Kamino. It breaks down into three separate pieces and includes the base section, the platform section and an ornamental section (which is really just a couple of stacks separated by piping. The paint operations are gorgeous and it looks like something that you just cannot pinpoint during this pivotal battle before Jango Fett and Boba Fett make their escape.
Jango Fett is a marvel as well. He is posed is a crouching type of stance as he angles himself on the steeply angled platform display base upon which he stands. The costuming is nothing short of amazing too. Longtime collectors of the Premium Format Figures line know very well that these high-end collectibles are mixed media figures. Sideshow Collectibles utilizes fabric, polystone, leather and metal to produce these beautiful statues. The same is true for Jango Fett. His belt and holsters are leather. His blue jumpsuit is fabric. And his armor details are cast In polystone in a beautiful and realistic nickeled silver. The Jango Fett Premium Format Figure breaks down into nine (9) separate pieces which includes the portrait (with a removable rangefinder), the left hand (holding a Wester-34 blaster pistol), the right hand (also holding a Wester-34 blaster pistol), his main body, his Z-6 jetpack, and then the display base (which breaks down into three separate pieces itself). The pieces fit together seamlessly and create a freeze-framed moment from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. Honestly, we’re so impressed with the approach of this piece as well as the final product that it’s almost overwhelming. Sideshow Collectibles’ artists should be proud of this piece. It really doesn’t disappoint at all, although we do have a suggestion which would have made this release flawless. We would have loved to see an interchangeable base cover that recreated the terrain of the Geonosis arena. Let us explain why this would have been ideal.
The exclusive piece for the Jango Fett Premium Format Figure is his JT-12 jetpack. This was the jetpack he utilized during the Battle of Geonosis. While it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he worse this on Kamino at some point, it would have been wonderful to see Sideshow Collectibles think outside of the box a little bit more and develop some sort of Geonosis red dirt covering over the Kamino inspired base for true and “screen accurate” terrain. We’re not complaining. We are just encouraging Sideshow Collectibles to go that extra mile to make collectors appreciate the quality things they make for us at an even more intense level. From the helmeted portrait design to the approach of his costume, the Jango Fett Premium Format Figure truly delivers one of the greatest collectible interpretations of this favorite Prequel Trilogy bounty hunter. We really couldn’t be happy with it. Let’s talk about one thing that really concerns us about the Premium Format Figures line. It’ the price. Back just a few years ago, at one time the Life-Size Busts were the most expensive Star Wars collectibles Sideshow offered. They ranged anywhere from $499.99 to $799.99 (and some were even more expensive than this). Now the Premium Format Figures cost this much. The Jango Fett Premium Format Figure retails for $499.99. That is a great deal of spending money at one time. We don’t think the pieces aren’t worth that suggested retail price, but they’re also not worth it too (if that makes sense). We hope they can find a way to bring this format to a more affordable price. They’re beautiful, but they’re too much money.
Status: If we stop to think about it, we doubt that Jango Fett actually meant that.
Decked in his distinctive Mandalorian armor, Sideshow’s Jango Fett Premium Format™ Figure captures the mobility and aggressiveness that is to be expected in one of the galaxy’s most capable bounty hunters.
The Jango Fett Premium Format™ Figure features Mandalorian armor, the Z-6 jetpack, and he wields a pair of WESTAR-34 blasters. The Sideshow exclusive version includes a switchable JT-12 jetpack for more display options.
