On the sinkhole planet of Utapau, the Separatist forces send in crab droids that can move easily over the rough, rocky terrain. The launcher under their center section launches powerful missiles.

The Crab Droid was a great choice for the Revenge Of The Sith line. A major player during the Battle of Utapau, the Crab Droid is a member of the Separatist Droid Army who fought the Grand Army of the Republic in some very exciting captured scenes from Episode III. Hasbro designed an all-new figure and added it to the Deluxe figures line. Not entirely screen accurate, Hasbro added an action feature to make it look like the Crab Droid was walking when the lever was pressed. The detail is pretty fantastic, but the droid feels a little bit too large for the 3.75” scaled figure line. They’re walking definitely mimics how a crab would walk, but their firepower was a deadly force used to attack the clones who fought them. Despite their interesting movement, they were an imposing force on the clones. We believe the Crab Droid is a relevant character to add to the Revenge Of The Sith line. It complements the rich basic figure line and adds dimension to the many battles that we saw in Episode III. An action feature has been included and that is the launching of the missile from the moving chin gun. Other than that, this figure is pretty straightforward.

It’s doubtful if Hasbro will ever retool this figure down the road. This one isn’t perfectly screen accurate, but it’s probably not worth their time and energy to redo this figure in any way. This is probably the only sculpt we’re going to see of this character. The Deluxe line is an interesting bag. Some sets contain multiple figures. Others contain smaller vehicles. The Crab Droid falls more into the smaller vehicle range, despite it being a droid character. Still, you get a nice amount of plastic for the price here. All six legs snap into place effortlessly and the Crab Droid stands beautifully unassisted. The legs are large and they take up a lot of space when the figure is displayed. It could really pass for a small vehicle. Perhaps Hasbro is indeed considering this to be a small vehicle, but as you know it’s a droid and its larger size works well for the Deluxe format. The Crab Droid does have a chunky aesthetic, but it does fit in well with various displays and dioramas. Collectors should have fun with this figure for years to come. It will be interesting to see how this character is utilized in future Star Wars stories.

Through the vernacular slang, the Crab Droids are called “muckrackers” since they are frequently used in marshy terrains. But officially, they are known as LM-432 units. Their armament includes twin blasters and a water and mud jet sprayer. Manufactured by the Techno Union, these large walkers wreak havoc on the Grand Army of the Republic during the many battles of the Clone Wars. We bet Hasbro could have made an awesome Crab Droid had they followed the onscreen character a bit more closely. The Deluxe line always focuses on action features, and that always causes problems to the toy when it comes to screen accuracy. Honestly, there is so much character in these droids. Whether it’s their walking or their aggressive actions during the Battle of Utapau, admittedly they’re pretty cool characters. It’s doubtful that collectors will army build the Crab Droid. More than two will probably sacrifice more room in your collection that you want to see. So, we expect this toy to be plentiful if you want one. Will the Deluxe Crab Droid grace your collection? We think you may not miss it if you decide to pass. But that choice is obviously yours.
