Jango Fett - TLC - Saga Legends (SL 15)

When Jango Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi meet, the Jedi's questions and the bounty hunter's replies are civil and bland. But beneath the surface of this polite conversation runs an undercurrent of suspicion and menace as they size each other up, both anticipating that they will meet again under less agreeable circumstances.

In 2007 for the 30 (77-07) line, Hasbro created a version of Jango Fett that elated some while disappointed others. Not too many mature collectors are into snap-on armor, but although 2007’s TAC Jango Fett (30 57) had this feature, it was a little more elevated, for lack of a better word. The figure could be dressed down his purple attire (pants and shirt) and then you could assemble his transformation into the bounty hunter Jango fett by adding a helmet, chest armor, shin armor, a belt/holster combination piece and jetpack. To unintentionally confuse things, Hasbro included the jetpack from the Battle of Geonosis, but the poncho from his confrontation with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Jango Fett is also outfitted with two Wester-34 blaster pistols as well. All of these components make for a fun toy, and aesthetically imperfect, Hasbro could have done a lot worse for us with all of these removable parts and features. As a result, you get to create many different configurations of this bounty hunter from Episode II, and ultimately we believe that this action figure succeeds. It’s because of this probably that Hasbro felt this action figure was a perfect candidate in The Legacy Collection Saga Legends line. This is the first version of Jango Fett added to the Saga Legends assortment, and we believe it’s a wise choice.

With all of the older Star Wars “Saga” Jango Fett action figures Hasbro could have chosen for a greatest hits assortment, we’re thankful that they went with a newer model, even it’s a likeness from a very brief moment in film (Jango Fett not in bounty hunter gear). The older figures for the most part were done in a pre-posed state and came with very limited in articulation. Despite this, the sculpts were excellent and all of the important details and nuances were in place and together made for good action figures. We have to remember that these figures were state-of-the-art back in 2002 and 2003 and we believe they have merit even today. Still, it’s great to see Hasbro choose articulation over the earlier figures. If you have the 2007 version of Jango Fett then you can easily pass over this one. They are identical and come with all of the same parts. The only difference here is that for The Legacy Collection all figures come with a cardboard locker of six extra accessories. This extra bonus is a nice gesture, but it’s also redundant and the figures paired with them can’t really utilize them in any meaningful way. Hopefully Hasbro will change things up in the future because an action figure stand or coin would be much more appreciated. Jango Fett is already armed with his weapons. Why would he ever need a droid blaster?

For us, 2007’s TAC Jango Fett (30 57) figure is absolutely one of our most favorites action figures from the entire 30 (77-07) line, and we say that knowing he isn’t necessarily 100% screen accurate. That being said, he’s the perfect marriage of a kids’ and collectors’ figure all in one package. There is enough here for both markets to appreciate. The exaggerated removable armor (which actually looks pretty incredible by the way) and removable soft-goods poncho are incredibly awesome and even when Jango Fett is completely accessorized he still doesn’t look bulky in the least. This is a testament to great action figure engineering. The figure is super-articulated and VERY scene-specific. As you have probably figured out, this version of Jango Fett is meant to capture the look of Jango Fett from the one and only scene when Taun We introduces Obi-Wan Kenobi to him. The icy exchange occurred in the doorway of Jango’s apartment and you could tell he was nervous about meeting a Jedi. Then so began the awkward investigation. In this encounter Jango is wearing a purple shirt and darker purple pants and then you can see parts of his bounty hunter armor in the closet doorway right before he asks Boba Fett to shut it to prevent Obi-Wan Kenobi from seeing it. This action figure captures this and we feel it’s a winner. It’s nice to see it again.
