Princess Leia is a bold leader, and R2-D2 is a faithful, ever-helpful droid. Together, they can beat any obstacle!
There is something extraordinarily beautiful about Princess Leia Organa in her Hoth outfit. The same thing is appearing to be true when it comes to her interpretation in the Forces Of Destiny line too. Part of the Figures & Friends assortment, Princess Leia Organa has been paired with R2-D2 to recreate a toy that is based on a popular episode in the Forces Of Destiny animated shorts. The Forces Of Destiny line is consistent, contains a wonderful range of female characters (different types of characters are forthcoming) and aside from their portraits provide realistically styled figures to engage a whole new audience: young female fans. The figures themselves are high quality and we have yet to be disappointed with how Hasbro has manufactured them. These dolls all look similar to one another, but they still all have unique characteristics. You can actually see the original Star Wars characters’ likenesses through the newly approached styles. Princess Leia Organa & R2-D2 pairs two of the oldest Star Wars characters into one set. For us, the pack-in R2-D2 figure is just the icing on the cake. Perhaps not everything is completely perfect here. We’re struggling to understand why the “Friends” portions of these two-packs are so out of scale and much too small next to the 11-Inch main figure. But we believe Hasbro wanted these figures to be paired with a “pet” of some sort and we truly feel that’s the main reason of the missed scale. Aside from that, this two-pack has figures that are designed beautifully.
The Figures & Friends assortment contains an extra smaller figure. Because of this, the MSRP is about $5.00 more. Princess Leia Organa & R2-D2 obviously fall under the Figure & Friends assortment. Most Forces Of Destiny figures come with around 20 points of articulation. This is certainly the case with Princess Leia Organa. She comes with premium articulation in the upper body mostly. But you will find other places with ball-jointed articulation like the knees for example. Princess Leia Organa’s outfit stands out more than her likeness in our opinion. She is wearing her “Hoth” outfit from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Hasbro recreated a faithful costume that just looks fantastic. Her waffled body suit is accented with a removable soft-goods vest. She even has a communicator sculpted onto her left wrist. Her boot have also been designed nicely and are removable if you’re so inclined. Also included is a blaster rifle which is also beautifully tooled and fits into her right hand perfectly. Princess Leia Organa is truly a beautiful figure and we think Hasbro ensured they included all of the major features of the character into this doll pretty darn well. She can be posed in a variety of ways: standing, running, walking and aiming. She also comes with an action feature. When you squeeze the legs she “aims” her blaster in defense. It’s cool from a certain perspective, but we’d prefer if Hasbro would just eliminate these gimmicks altogether.
We feel the biggest omission here as far as an accessory is concerned is the lantern she used in the Forces Of Destiny episode. That would have been a really unique addition here and we feel it is a missed opportunity. It’s certainly not the end of the world, but it would have made a wonderful addition. R2-D2, although small, is another great addition here. The sculpt is rather excellent and the figure comes with articulation. R2-D2 has been given a swivel dome and two swivel legs. The paint operations are excellent and is seemingly the perfect complement to Princess Leia Organa here. For $24.99 you do get a great deal of value here. We just hope that this line interests a new Star Wars collecting generation. Obviously there will be collectors who will dip their toes into this line, but we hope a broader audience will embrace Forces Of Destiny so that this high-quality line will continue. The Forces Of Destiny line has outfits that are sewn with precision and the mix of plastic and soft-goods accessories in this line are seamless in interaction. It can’t be argued that Hasbro didn’t think this line through with great forethought and care. They absolutely did. The paint operations only seal the deal here as they look marvelous and have no overspray or errors. Perhaps the rooted hair is a tad sloppy in spots, but overall meets the mark. Princess Leia Organa & R2-D2 are fine additions to the Forces Of Destiny line. We hope we see more OT characters in this line soon!
