It takes a defiant courage to stare down the threat of the First Order, and while Captain Poe Dameron is eager to fight, he worries that some in the Resistance leadership don't have what it takes.

Well, well, well. Hasn’t Hasbro come far with the likeness of Poe Dameron? We almost couldn’t believe our eyes when we received our sample. A 6” human action figure that actually LOOKS LIKE the actor that portrayed him? Color us impressed! Captain Poe Dameron has an inconsistent run at best when it comes to the figures made of him in The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line. The inaugural figure, 2015’s TBS [P3] Poe Dameron (07) figure looked like he was smashed, but then a few “moments” later Hasbro released a different version of him in the TARGET exclusive 2015 TBS [P3] Poe Dameron/First Order Riot Control Stormtrooper two-pack and collectors of the line were generally impressed with how well that figure turned out. Now we are at our third 6” version of him and dare we say it’s easily the best? Looking a whole lot like Han Solo and/or Captain Cassian Andor from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Captain Poe Dameron (with new title) enters The Black Series [Phase III] line proudly and beautifully with a great sculpt, significantly improved paint operations and a simplicity that is definitely refreshing when compared to the complexity in the new Disney Star Wars Entertainment. Captain Poe Dameron is testimony that Hasbro COULD get things in order without any updated technology and that human likenesses are possible with their current tools and methods. Without complaining about past figures, we’re just glad to see such a tremendous leap forward with Captain Poe Dameron. We personally can’t see human likenesses getting better than this without the new “photo realistic” technology.

As far as Captain Poe Dameron as an action figure is concerned, this is as straightforward as we can get. This figure shows off Captain Poe Dameron in the most generic of Resistance gear. His outfit truly resembles Han Solo’s in The Empire Strikes Back and you can see how the Original Trilogy was a source of inspiration in giving him his new look. The figure comes with only one “real” accessory, but technically two if you consider his removable vest shell an accessory. The outfit has been well-tooled and Hasbro didn’t hold back capturing all of the details inherent to clothing including buttons, clasps, badges, wrinkles, and drape. All of this is captured beautifully. Hasbro then was careful to decorate the figure with precision and care. His jacket looks like real leather and his pants and shirt look like a real cloth material. The layering effect that these create is clever and the outfit is wonderfully finished off with high boots and a belt/holster combination piece. Captain Poe Dameron comes with a small blaster pistol which fits perfectly into his hand. It also can be placed in his holster when not using it. Although expected at this point in the collecting game, we don’t take this features for granted. They really do help to bring these characters to life and the figures will stand the test of time because of it. When fully assembled and posed in action, Captain Poe Dameron is a tremendous success for The Black Series [Phase III] line as far as we’re concerned. We wouldn’t care if we saw Hasbro patting themselves on the back for their accomplishments here. They should definitely be proud of this Captain Poe Dameron action figure.

Many of us saw when customizers took 2015’s TBS [P3] Poe Dameron (07) figure and updated the paint job. Those who saw it were stunned that Hasbro actually had an incredible sculpt under those dreadful paint operations. That started making us realize that Hasbro is actually creating some incredible sculpts, but that their deco protocols were destroying what the sculpts were bring to the line. It’s been a longstanding issue in the 6” line, but hopefully, the proof of Captain Poe Dameron will alleviate the angst and show to us that better paint jobs on these figures are on the way. Captain Poe Dameron has a stunning portrait. This looks like the actor nearly identically. But this time Hasbro has the head sculpt paint operations that prove what a dynamic portrait this action figure actually has. It wouldn’t be fair to say that Captain Poe Dameron has perfect paint operations. That isn’t true. The whites of the eyes are still much too "widespread" and the eyebrows have some thickness issues. But stare at the head sculpt for a few moments and you’ll see what an amazing job the factory did on this figure. The hair is gorgeous and the lips and facial hair couldn’t have been applied better. Even the eyes, while not perfect, do not sacrifice much of the actor’s likeness. We’re extremely happy with how Captain Poe Dameron has turned out. Whatever Hasbro did to correct the process has worked here. And if it weren’t for Hasbro going with the “photo realistic” technology in 2018, we’d go so far to say that this level of deco is more than acceptable in the 6” scale. Check this figure out when you have a chance. We think you’ll be impressed.
